Breakdown: Transfer WR Jared Brown commits to South Carolina

There’s no question that one of the biggest needs this offseason for South Carolina is adding depth and experience to their young wide receiver room. Today, the Gamecocks were able to do just that by landing a wide out who a handful of Power 5 schools also targeted.

Former Coastal Carolina wide receiver Jared Brown has committed to Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks. Standing at 6-0, 190 pounds, Brown arrives in Columbia with two years of eligibility remaining. This past season, the Georgia native complied over 1,000 all-purpose yards with 58 catches for 740 receiving yards and four touchdowns, which ranked second best for the Chanticleers. He added 252 yards and a score on the ground.

As a redshirt freshman in 2022, he earned freshman All-American honors from the Football Writers Association of America. He hauled in 49 receptions for 789 yards and six touchdowns. The six TDs led all of Coastal receivers that year. In his career, he’s rushed for 439 yards on 35 carries and two touchdowns.

Another number that stands out is 25. That’s the number of games that Brown has played in over the past two years. He also played in two games during his true freshman season. It’s that experience that the Gamecocks will be relying on as USC’s top two returning wides out are Luke Doty, who also plays quarterback, and Nyck Harbor. Doty and Harbor are South Carolina’s only returning wide outs who caught double digit passes in 2023.

Brown chooses the Gamecocks over a handful of Power 5 offers including Auburn, Louisville, and Texas Tech.
