Bryce Elder named to the National League All-Star team

Former Texas Longhorns starting pitcher and current Atlanta right-hander Bryce Elder was one of eight Braves to be named to the National League All-Star team.

Elder, a 6-foot-2, 220-pounder from Decatur, Texas, spent three years on the 40 Acres before he was drafted by the Braves in the fifth round of the 2020 draft. He accumulated a 10-6 record in 39 career appearances for Texas with 18 starts. The Longhorns’ Friday night ace in 2020, Elder was 3-1 in four starts with a 2.08 ERA and a .191 BAA before the season was suspended and eventually canceled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 16 starts for the Braves this year, Elder is 6-1 with a 2.44 ERA in 96.0 innings. He’s struck out 79 and walked 28 to produce a 1.13 WHIP. Elder exceeded rookie limits during the 2022 season. Elder debuted during the 2022 campaign, and posted a 2-4 record in 10 games with nine starts. Elder tallied 54.0 innings and posted a 1.24 WHIP.
