The first national signing period for college football begins December 20 and runs through December 22. This series gives you the chance to familiarize yourself with the next class charged with keeping Texas in a position of national prominence.

To win at a consistently high level means stacking talented class after talented class. The top-five 2024 class does just that following top-five finishes in the 2022 and 2023 classes.

On the first national signing day, Inside Texas will offer profiles of each member of the 2024 signing class. Up next, Michael Kern.

The Player: Michael Kern, P/K, Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas

The Rating: 80.07 (three-star)

The Ranking: Kern is ranked as the No. 2302 overall prospect, the No. 6 kicker, and the No. 287 prospect in Florida according to the On3 Industry Ranking. On3 ranked Kern as the No. 5 kicker and the No. 313 prospect in Florida.

The Highlights:

The Recruitment: Texas offered Kern on April 24 and he committed just over a week later on May 2. Kern was a fixture at major recruiting events, including the June 16 official visit weekend. While the kicking job is likely to remain Bert Auburn’s and then Will Stone’s after that, Ryan Sanborn’s departure means Kern will compete early for the punting position.

The Projection: Punter.

The Enrollment: Kern will enroll in the summer.

The Final Word: Texas needed a punter with Sanborn moving on and Jeff Banks found his guy at the Florida powerhouse.
