The first national signing day for college football begins December 20 and runs through December 22. This series gives you the chance to familiarize yourself with the next class charged with keeping Texas in a position of national prominence.

To win at a consistently high level means stacking talented class after talented class. The top-five 2024 class does just that following top-five finishes in the 2022 and 2023 classes.

On the first national signing day, Inside Texas will offer profiles of each member of the 2024 signing class. Up next, Wardell Mack.

The Player: Wardell Mack, DB, Marrero (La.) John Ehret

The Rating: 93.54 (four-star)

The Ranking: Mack is ranked as the No. 100 overall prospect, the No. 11 cornerback, and the No. 4 player in Louisiana in the On3 Industry Ranking. On3 ranks Mack as the No. 56 overall prospect, the No. 6 cornerback, and the No. 4 prospect in Louisiana.

The Highlights:

The Recruitment:

The Projection: He’s a talented cornerback first and foremost, but he could also play Star given his blend of athleticism and physicality. – Eric Nahlin

The Reasoning: “They tell me they are building something special there. Every time I talk to Coach Sark, he tells me they are building something special. And I can see it and envision it.”

The Relationship: “Coach Joseph and I talk often. Multiple times weekly, honestly. Our connection keeps getting stronger and stronger. He has a good feel for where I’m at. He’s just being patient and riding it out with me.”

The Enrollment: Mack will enroll early.

The Final Word: The Longhorns topped the Gators twice for a high-quality defensive back, with Mack being the first. Joseph went back to a place he’s familiar with in Louisiana to sign the top-100 prospect, and the Longhorn secondary will be stronger for it.
