Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian mentioned after the spring game that May is the only month during the year where he doesn’t have a full sense of what his players are up to. Each of his “120 sons” are finishing the semester and are off until late May when they report for summer strength and conditioning. He doesn’t have to worry about Liona Lefau and a few other teammates at all, as Lefau is hosting a free youth football camp in Hawaii at Kahuku High School.

Kahuku, on the north side of the island of Oahu, is Lefau’s alma mater and the site of the camp. He’s there with several other well-known college football players plus teammates Tausili Akana, Anthony Hill Jr., Colton Vasek, David Gbenda, Morice Blackwell, Juan Davis, and Vernon Broughton. The camp, something not previously possible prior to NIL, is part of Lefau’s efforts with the Liona Lefau Foundation.

This is the second annual camp Lefau has put on at Kahuku for kids from Kindergarten to grade six, and according to Lefau’s website the camp has reached capacity.

Lefau is entering his sophomore season at Texas. During the 2023 campaign, Lefau appeared in all 14 games and registered most of his playing time on special teams. His work with Jeff Banks‘ phase earned plenty of praise from Sarkisian during the 2023 season.

A 6-foot-1, 218-pounder, Lefau tallied seven tackles and recorded them in the games against Rice, Wyoming, Kansas, Houston, BYU, TCU, and Texas Tech. Along with Hill Jr. and Gbenda, Lefau is in line for more standard down playing time during the 2024 season.

Lefau was a member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll during the spring semester in 2023.
