Texas was selected as the No. 1 seed in the Austin regional and the No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA baseball tournament on Monday when the NCAA announced the field of 64. Joining the Longhorns in Austin will be two-seed Arizona State, three-seed Fairfield, and four-seed Southern.

The Longhorns won a share of the Big 12 regular season title for the second time in David Pierce’s five-year tenure and are a national seed for the first time since 2018. It is also the highest seed for the Longhorns in the NCAA tournament since 2010.

The winner of the Austin regional will face the winner of the Gainesville regional, hosted by the No. 15 Florida Gators.

The Sun Devils were 32-20 in the 2021 season and 16-14 in Pac 12 play, good for fifth place. Arizona State, a five-time national champion program, is making its 40th appearance in the tournament.

The Fairfield Stags are making their second appearance in the tournament after a 37-3 regular season. Fairfield finished second in RPI, four spots ahead of the Longhorns.

The Southern Jaguars, the SWAC tournament champions, were 20-28 and 13-11 in conference.

Texas takes on the Jaguars at 1 p.m. on Friday, with Longhorn Network broadcasting the matchup.
