Full tweet: Points of clarification on the 09/19 Friday Night Texas Tech/Houston Game: 1. I will re-iterate that Friday nights are sacred in Texas, and high school football is an integral part of our proud culture. It’s different here than it is in other states. 2. Texas Tech’s alumni base is largely centered in the DFW area, which is 300+ miles from Lubbock. A Friday game puts enormous strain on their ability to attend the game. 3. Tech plays a late road game in Corvallis, Oregon prior Saturday -will arrive back in Lubbock at about 4am on Sunday. While we are technically inside the “window” that allows this game to be played, it’s only by a few hours, and will put significant strain on our team, staff - even the equipment managers. 4. @BrettYormark and I are friends and have a good relationship. We work well together, on many fronts, and Texas Tech is very committed to the Big 12. Brett and I have had our disagreements, but I like the guy and respect his hustle. However, I do stand by a quote I made: the Commissioners work for the Presidents, and the Presidents work for the Boards. The commissioners have not been vested in unilateral authority to do whatever they want. This is an issue throughout college athletics.

Thats better stated for sure. They are all valid points that should matter in not playing this game on a Friday. But its still an argument that I think should have been made privately.

feel like this is more of him trying to encourage other schools in other conferences to "wake up" and take back power that has been given to commissioners. We do need more transparency and voices to speak out. Obviously the poors will say we are speaking out of turn and the rich will say we aren't anything..... but thats gonna happen regardless with what we are doing.

Guessing he tried and was blown off so he took it public. Could be wrong, though.

Sure, but also the entire college football universe is talking about us again.

If they were going to give us a Friday game it makes no sense why it’s not TCU the day after Thanksgiving

I think his best point is about our fan base being able to get to the game. It wouldn't look good for the conference if we had 10K empty seats on a prime-time game. Although saying that, I think we had a full-house against TCU on a Thursday night game. I think that's where this gif came to life... Image

This. For as good of a "promotor" as he is, he's done absolutely nothing to promote his conferences, objectively, best performing athletic department top to bottom. In fact, theres an argument to be made that he's actually done the opposite. From the tortilla issue/non issue, knife being thrown by a coach disregard, public dissention, appearing to encourage a Friday game for one of the biggest of the year. How often does Sankey hamstring/publicly find ways to reprimand the Alabama/Georgia/Texas? How often does Pettiti hamstring/publicly find ways to reprimand the Ohio State/Michigan State/Penn State? I'm not saying we're "on their level" but to this conference, we are. Thats what makes Yormarks actions so dumb and frustrating. I guarantee these situations have been attempted to be discussed behind the scenes, but I bet they fell on deaf ears. FOI requests could prove one way or the other haha

I think some of you are trying too hard on this point. UT got fined for throwing things on the field. While a fun tradition, I could easily see why opposing teams would object to the tortilla tradition (our fans throwing things on the field). I don't remember him getting behind the idea of the knife before an investigation rolled out. CC started this public fight, not him. We complained about UT getting favoritism and now seemingly want it for ourselves because "HS football is more important in TX." I'm not saying it's a great idea, just that we can't or shouldn't expect to be treated differently.

The same things we used to complain about UT doing, we are now doing. I hope we can all see and realize that regardless of your stance on this particular game.

I think this is a ridiculous thing to go back and forth about. Just play the damn game. I don’t care what time it is.

People can say what they want. It’s clear he will always put Tech first. And I think he’s right to pick this fight , I don’t always agree with Cody but there’s no reason this game should be played on Friday that particular weekend when there are no other markee games besides Ole Miss and LSU on Sat

Its pretty simple really. You line Brett and Cody up and run an Oklahoma drill. BY is the ball carrier. Cody is the tackler. Winner gets their way.

Sure. But you get to do that if you're the biggest ratings draw/best performer in your conference. The "best" salesman in a company can complain about things the bottom salesmen can't. Just Like Ohio State and Michigan get to say, and do, things that Minnesota/Perdue/Rutgers don't. We're the top dog currently in the big 12. We get to do the annoying top dog things.
