Kendal Briles on Sellers

I hope Sellers trusts the process! I truly believe he will be a 1st rounder under Briles' offense scheme.

Those sound like words of him returning.

That sounds incredibly simple but the fact is we haven't taken that approach in the last 5 seasons. It is so refreshing to hear.

We haven't had a play caller the last 5 plus years!! But we do now!!

This is literally the difference between a bad OC and a very good one. A very good one will tailor the offense around the talent which in essence makes it more of a multiple offense unless you carbon copy the QB and only recruit guys with a similar skill set. I also think this might be a factor as to convince Sellers to return.. Shula as much as it was a continuity hire he tried to get Sellers to be more of a pocket passer imo.

Said he wouldn't do it and screwed the kid up before the Bowl game vs Illinois. One of the worst QB coaching jobs in history. You can't tank a kids draft stock worse than Shula did Sellers.

Really was great to hear him say that. I've wanted Kendall Briles for a while, and as much as I'm still pissed about this season, I'm excited for the next few years.

You are correct that you want to have a basic system but any system should understand the talents that your people have and adjust to it. Otherwise you would keep running up the middle and lose a down and a yard.

Briles is not here to train Sellers or even to convince Sellers to return. Briles only comment about Sellers was he would tailor his offense around Sellers meaning his play calling will better suit Sellers skill set and not try to change Sellers in any way like Shula did trying to keep sellers in the pocket more.

Just my thoughts. He has his offense he runs but he will tweak according to personnel. He said he wants Sellers to be comfortable. He won’t design a completely new offense just for Sellers.

The BEST Offensive Coordinators scheme and play call around the talent that they have on the field instead of putting a square peg in a round hole!!!

That part especially excited me. Meaning the playbook could change based on who is playing QB. Of course there will be plays that any QB is going to run but from the sounds of it for example Briles will not call a play that is meant for a dual threat when he has more of a pocket passer playing.. Sign me up!!!

I don't think Briles will do that. Because honestly what Sellers does best is HUNH from the spread.

I believe Loggains pretty much did that. We and 16 were pretty good that year!

Has Sellers himself made comments that's led so many to question/suggest he's not returning?

I would be thrilled for LaNorris to pass for 3,000 yards and rush for another 800 next year but I also want to be realistic. For most of his 2 seasons as a starter LS16 has played in systems that didn't fit his skill set. During the 6 game win streak most of the big plays came on improvised scramble runs or late scramble passes, so what SYSTEM is gonna be best for him. LS16 seems to be most comfortable with rolling out, throwing on the move. I admit, I have not seen much of Briles offense as oc at TCU but a lot of his schemes seem to be based on timing. Hopefully Briles will be able to coach up LaNorris so that he is comfortable within his system. This will require LS16 to totally buy into the system and lots of repetitions to feel comfortable making these quick decisions. Hopefully this will be a smooth transition.

Loggains was pretty good when he got his feet back up under him. But I wish the hire had been Briles instead of Loggains. That was an opportunity to reset our offense.
