He did a whole segment on that podcast about how he feels like he has everything he needs to succeed at Alabama, loves living in the Bible Belt, and how his daughters have grown up in Tuscaloosa. Really good listen.

Can't give AD Byrne enough credit for landing Oats. What a hire, and I know he's doing everything he can to make sure Oats stays in T-Town and has a sustained era of great success. With everything in our world being so transactional these days, it does seem like history will favorably remember a guy like Oats who took a good program, made it elite, and if he stays long enough to win a natty or two, will forever be mentioned as one of the great SEC coaches. I think of what Billy Donovan did. And then Billy went to the NBA and we've hardly ever heard from him again. Nothing in the world matches March Madness, and Oats is exactly right about the SEC regular season and tournament championships as well.

The Decision to hire Byrne and subsequently Oats will go down as two of the more important hirings in UA history.

This isn’t your daddy’s College Basketball. The SEC is now the place to be much like CFB

Outside of something unexpected, I think the only thing that would get Nate to leave is the NBA

We finally have a coach and program that can win a NC in basketball. I believe its just a matter of when not if.

He has done great and glad he’s here. I think he laid it out at the end that how the university allocates rev sharing can impact his satisfaction level. It will be interesting to see how schools choose to do that. Will a school have to pick a sport to “emphasize”? I can see other schools with lesser football programs giving larger percentages to their basketball program than Alabama will.

I don't believe all the coach speak, but guess I would rather hear him say it than not say it.

Any school in today world can win a natty. You do not have to be at any blue blood to get it done. The portal and NIL have changed the game. I also believe technology has changed this a bit too, that even when you are far from home it is very easy to stay connected.

What??? The one thing Oats doesnt do is coach speak lol. He barely has a filter, as straight a shooter as youll find in the coaching world.

We had some previous guys in the AD office that really love Bama, but Byrne was a must have IMO. Love Mal for all the reasons, but without Saban he's mediocre... and that may be kind. Bill Battle was a good guy, but he inexplicably fucked us raw with some of our negotiations, and he really didn't have the energy for it. We needed somebody that was closer to thinking in the 21st century than the 19th one. Byrne came here, kept Nick Saban happy, hired Nate Oats, and has managed the rest of the sports pretty admirably IMO. If he retires here, we should build him a marble bust or something. Put one of those old english court wigs on him.

“I don’t think I have to leave… now, things change year to year, and we’ll see how people adapt and all that…” He is letting them know there at Bama to keep providing at high level
