Tommy Lloyd Press Events Today

For those interested, I believe this is his schedule: Link: https://www.ncaa.com/_flysystem/public-s3/files/2026 Final Four Schedule of Events.pdf Quote of the Day when asked about UNC job: “Listen I got my full focus on this team. Nothing is distracting me. That’s just how I’ve decided to approach it. Im excited…I thought we had a really good practice today and excited to plan for practice tomorrow. Myron, you’ve gotten to know me over the years…I’m a simple guy. I’m not a multi-tasker. You can ask my wife. I’m 100% locked in on Arizona basketball right now. I’m excited to see what this team can do. I have a real strong belief in this team and this team deserves my full attention, so that’s what I’m giving them.”

If UNC's going to lose Tommy as a candidate, it'll be one of those media events today. A post FF loss presser where emotions are high won't be reliable.

Agreed. I definitely plan on tuning in…both to make sure he doesn’t shut us down and to hopefully witness the media God that is Tommy Lloyd.

How am I supposed to work if I'm watching Tommy all day.

The odds that any of the 4 coaches at this final four would discuss contract negotiations at these press events is exactly 0. We’re going to need to wait until Sunday at the very earliest for any news.

They don’t have to. He’s going to continue to get asked about our job…he’s going to continue to have to provide an answer. The longer he dances around it like Baryshnikov, the better for us. He could always come out and say, “look…I’m staying at Arizona next year.” And at that point, we know it’s time to move on.

He will get asked. How he replies (3rd time IIRC) is important.

Exactly. We shall see how he continues to approach the questions he will be asked. And he will be asked plenty about his future. If he holds firm on his recent stances, it will speak volumes about where this is likely headed.

I think he’ll get the same softballs and knock them out of the park. Like usual. He’s locked in. As long as he doesn’t flat out say he won’t be at UNC next year and doesn’t announce an extension; no news is good news.

I agree with this. I think he'll just keep repeating, "I already addressed this. I'm focused on this team and winning a national championship." I don't expect him to continue getting pressed about it after that.

I'll bet he says he has nothing to say about any job and that he is focused on the task at hand. He's a smart man. He has leverage with both UNC and Arizona by making that statement.

The less it's brought up, the better.

What’s it like as a reporter covering Thursday and Friday before the Saturday Final Four games? I’d imagine pretty chaotic.

Disagree...If they lose him to this, he was never UNC's to start with....

There has to be real smoke with Lloyd because no one is putting the full court press on Dusty May.

It’ll be interesting but I can’t imagine that if he hasn’t shot it down by now with his own local media that he isn’t going to shoot it down today or tomorrow with national media. We she’ll see.

How crazy would it be if we end up with Dusty and all this Lloyd stuff was the actual smoke screen. (I prefer Lloyd)

That first one is interesting. Interview with both May and Lloyd. If they get asked about the UNC position, it would be interesting to hear the difference in their responses (even though I highly doubt they will get asked about it in an interview like that lol)

Which team is the higher seed for the FF? Michigan or Arizona?

Arizona was the overall #2 seed for the tournament, and Michigan was #3. The #1 seed has been eliminated from the tournament. :)

We can clearly say I’m not leaving Arizona during any press conference. That’s what folks should look for. He won’t mention a new contract. He won’t mention interest in the Carolina job. He won’t talk about wanting more resources. He’ll either deflect and say he’s focused on the FF and Michigan or he will say I’m not going anywhere.

@GregBarnes why do you believe media feels like they have to ask? It creates an unnecessary shadow over the FF and generally you don’t get a straight answer or you do what Wade did and then just reverse course a few days later anyways. What’s the harm in keeping it about the game? There are plenty of storylines and questions about the FF that media could/should focus on.
