Report: Jason Garrett named as potential Drew Brees replacement on NBC broadcasts

It sounds like Drew Brees is on his way out at NBC after just one season. The network is starting to look at replacements — and a former Dallas Cowboys coach’s name came up.
Jason Garrett could a possible replacement for Brees, according to The New York Post’s Andrew Marchand. Garrett currently works for NBC as an analyst for the USFL after spending the last two years as the offensive coordinator for the New York Giants. He currently works alongside Jac Collinsworth for games, and Collinsworth could replace Mike Tirico in the Notre Dame football booth, according to Marchand.
Garrett coached the Cowboys from 2010-19 and took them to the playoffs three times. He left Dallas with an 85-67 record, including a 2-3 record in the postseason. The Cowboys didn’t renew his contract after the 2019 season, and that’s when he headed to the Giants to take over as offensive coordinator. Garrett’s name also came up as a potential candidate for the Duke head coaching job before the Blue Devils hired Mike Elko.
Brees and NBC are reportedly gearing up to part ways after just one year. He called Notre Dame games alongside Tirico and did was a studio analyst as part of Football Night in America. He also called two NFL games — a Thanksgiving game between the Buffalo Bills and New Orleans Saints and the AFC Wild Card Game between the Las Vegas Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs.

“Despite speculation from media about my future this fall, I’m currently undecided,” Brees tweeted. “I may work for NBC, I may play football again, I may focus on business and philanthropy, I may train for the pickleball tour, senior golf tour, coach my kids, or all of the above. I’ll let you know.”
Shortly thereafter, ESPN reporter Ed Werder offered more insight into Brees’ thinking, adding the former Saints star had surgery this offseason.
“Knowing Drew Brees over the years, I do not take seriously his recent social media posts about unretiring to play QB in the #NFL,” Werder tweeted. “For one thing, he had left shoulder surgery two weeks ago and would be physically unable to play until at least September or October, per a source.”
