Turner, Scourton sign rookie deals, Stewart doesn’t

Two of the three Texas A&M defensive linemen taken in the 2025 NFL Draft have signed their contracts, but one remains a very visible holdout.

Defensive end Nic Scourton agreed to terms with the Carolina Panthers on a four-year contract worth approximately $8.6 million. The Panthers announced their agreement with Scourton, a second round pick (51st overall) Saturday night.

Scourton wasn’t the first Aggie to sign, however. Defensive tackle Shemar Turner and the Chicago Bears agreed to a four-year deal Thursday, but terms were not disclosed. Turner, like Scourton, was a second round pick, the 62nd overall.

The first Aggie off the board during the 2025 draft was Shemar Stewart, who was the 17th overall pick and the first round selection of the Cincinnati Bengals. Stewart is the only first rounder currently unsigned, as he and his representatives are in an ongoing dispute with the Bengals over the wording of a portions of his rookie contract. The Bengals are attempting to include a clause that would allow a default in any year of the contract to trigger the voiding of all remaining guaranteed money, something no other team has attempted to do. As a result, Stewart remains a holdout and is working in College Station with the A&M program — though he will not be returning to play for the Aggies.

Von gets a solid payday in Washington

Texas A&M legend and future Pro Football Hall of Famer Von Miller has agreed to terms with the Washington Commanders on a one-year deal, with Miller serving as a designated pass rusher. Miller is now 36 and is coming off a 2024 season where he only played in 13 games, racking up 13 tackles and six sacks. But his ability to get to the quarterback still earned him a decent payday in Washington, as he picks up a base salary of $6.1 million with performance escalators that could take the total to more than $10 million.

Record deal leads Aggie signee to join the Blue Jays

Klein Cain outfield Blaine Bullard was taken in the 12th round of the 2025 MLB Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays, but was considered to still have a decent chance of ending up in Aggieland. The Blue Jays blew that theory out of the water with a record signing bonus for a 12th round pick, and Bullard is off to the pro ranks.

The signing bonus pool for MLB teams only counts to the first 10 rounds, leaving teams free to do as they choose after that. And what the Blue Jays did was spend big on Bullard, who they regarded as one of the best prospects on their board. Bullard signed a deal with the Blue Jays that included a signing bonus of nearly $1.7 million, easily the highest for a 12th round pick in the history of the MLB Draft.

Harrison homers in Cape League All-Star Game

Texas A&M catcher Bear Harrison is playing in the wood bat Cape Cod League this summer and was named to Cape League All-Star Game. Harrison, who is playing for Falmouth, was a member of the West team and homered during a three-run seventh inning. The East, however, won the game 13-8.
