Donovan Webb commits to Texas Tech

Frisco (TX) Panther Creek safety Donovan Webb has committed to Texas Tech, he announced in a ceremony Wednesday. Webb is the first pledge for the Red Raiders in the month of July.

Webb was one of the Red Raiders’ earliest official visitors of the recruiting season, visiting Lubbock in April. It appeared Tech had lost momentum with the dynamic safety since that visit. After a visit to Michigan and a Notre Dame offer- it seemed Webb had slipped from the Red Raiders’ grasp.

A late push from the Tech staff turned the tide and led the 4-star to commit to Tech in the end.

Webb was being recruited by Kansas State, LSU, Colorado and the reigning national champions Ohio State.

With 37 offers on the table, it is safe to say Webb is Tech’s most sought after recruit in the class. He becomes the sixth defensive back to commit for 2026, joining Luke Bell, Maddox Quiller, Noah Lewis, Aaron Bradshaw and S’Vioarean Martin.

If this holds, six DBs will be the most Tech has taken in a single recruiting class since 2017’s seven.

Webb commits to Texas Tech and becomes the fourth 4-star to announce his pledge to the Red Raiders. He joins Martin, Bradshaw and Jerald Mays. Additionally, Webb is the 16th commit of the cycle for the Red Raiders.

Webb’s commitment to Tech continues strong DB recruiting for the program under Joey McGuire. He is the seventh 4-star defensive back to become a Red Raider. This comes on the heels of other 4-star high schoolers such as Peyton Morgan, Brenden Jordan and Maurion Horn.

Webb’s decision could potentially kick off a powerful July for Red Raider recruiting. Tech is still awaiting decisions from priority targets RB Ace Rowden, WR Chase Campbell and EDGE Jamarion Carlton.
