UCF head coach Scott Frost is making a major investment into the future of football roster management.

Trent Mossbrucker, a longtime football administrator who previously worked with Frost at both UCF and Nebraska, has been hired as the Knights’ new General Manager of Football Player Personnel, Acquisitions and Roster Management, a source tells UCFSports.com. It’s a crucial position in the new era of revenue sharing and player contracts.

Mossbrucker previously worked with Frost during his first stint at UCF in 2017 as Assistant Director of Football Operations. He followed Frost to Nebraska, where he served as Director of Football and Recruiting Administration from 2018 through 2021.

Since leaving Nebraska, Mossbrucker has gained additional experience working alongside head coach Jeff Brohm. He spent the 2022 season at Purdue and most recently served as the recruiting coordinator at Louisville from 2023 through June 2025.

“Everybody’s using that role a little bit different,” Frost said recently about the GM position. “I think there’s some places where the GM has complete control over who is on the team. That won’t be the case here. I think we did a really good job with (Executive Director of Player Personnel) Jeff Love and I and his team working together this winter and spring to build a team.

“We have 69 new players. We had a lot in spring ball and we felt like we had a really high hit rate on guys coming in and being the player we thought, or better. I think that happened because we spent so much time on it and I was involved in it, and collaborative with it, certainly not the only person making decisions, but yeah, I just think we’re a little short-handed.

“There’s some things I had to do as a head coach that I don’t think a head coach should have to do. We’ll bring someone in to help me with, but it’s certainly not going to be a guy that comes in and makes all the decisions for me either. We just need more people and as we continue to gain resources we have opportunities to add to the team, and we got to make sure it’s the right guy.”

Mossbrucker is 2012 graduate of the University of Iowa and a former Hawkeye kicker. In 2008, he led the Big Ten in field goal percentage (.867) and set a school record for most points scored by a freshman with 70.

GM will oversee roster construction, contract negotiation

In UCF’s updated structure, the GM position is a senior-level football operations role that reflects the changing dynamics of roster management in the current era of revshare and direct player compensation.

According to UCFAA’s official job description, the General Manager is tasked with leading “the negotiation and fulfillment of player management related contracts and activities within the framework of athletics, university, conference and NCAA rules and regulations.”

Mossbrucker will collaborate closely with Frost managing the program’s revenue share budget and cap strategy. He’ll also oversee the player personnel department, guide the evaluation of prospective and current players, and serve as the point of contact in negotiations involving student-athletes, their families, and agents.

The role includes maintaining a salary cap structure at the individual, positional, and team levels, preparing and cataloging revshare agreements, and advising Frost on roster and retention decisions.

Most Power Four programs have added General Managers in recent years as roster building has evolved beyond traditional recruiting. In addition to scholarship management, the GM position now plays a critical role in revshare contract negotiations and balancing market value considerations, functions that just a few years ago didn’t exist in college football.
