PIKE ROAD, ALA. | Auburn is hosting the annual recruiting event “Big Cat Weekend” this coming weekend. An in-state offensive lineman is planning to be there. Vysen Lang, a 3-star OL from Pike Road, Ala., is looking forward to his first return trip to Auburn since the A-Day spring game.

Lang recently released a top 6 schools. On Monday morning, he named those 6 schools as his leaders once again.

“My top 6 is Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Texas,” the 6-foot-4 320-pound offensive lineman said. The big OL decided he would wait until the fall to start taking his official visits.

“I haven’t taken any of my official visits,” Lang said. “I plan on taking all five in the fall.”

He currently has 3 out of 5 scheduled,

“I have one set up to Texas, Tennessee, and Arkansas”

Texas “on a come-up” in Lang’s opinion

Lang had some good things to say about the Longhorns. According to him, Texas is recruiting him hard.

“They’re (Texas) pushing hard, pushing hard for me,” Lang said.

Noticeable recruiting additions are paying off for Texas in this recruitment.

“Texas, well I feel like they’re on a come up,” Lang said. “They had the top-5 class last year, especially with O-linemen. This year they got Arch Manning–that’s a big boost. He’s bringing a whole bunch of good wide receivers, DB’s, tight ends, everybody. I feel like if they mix in well, they could be a good team.”

The Longhorns’ Offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood is one of the lead recruiters for Lang.

“Coach (Kyle) Flood,” Lang said. “He’s one of my favorite O-Line coaches.”

Arkansas is in the hunt as well

Cody Kennedy and Sam Pittman have the Hogs in this recruitment.

“Arkansas, Coach Kennedy is probably my favorite O-Line coach,” Lang said. “The head coach (Sam Pittman) is one of the only head coaches who is a former O-line coach. I like both of them.”

Lang feels comfortable with the scheme at Arkansas as well.

“The scheme that they have, I feel like if I go there it won’t be a hard adjustment for me to do,” Lang said. “It would make me look better because I would be able to easily adapt to the scheme.”

Why Tennessee is still in the mix

The offensive staff at Tennessee have made a big impression on Lang.

“Coach Elarbee, Coach Heupel, Coach Golesh–that’s probably my favorite staff, like the whole offensive staff, I just love them.”

Like Arkansas, the offense is similar to what he has done before.

“Their offense is literally the same thing I did last year,” Lang said. “It’s much fast because its college. It’s gonna be the same thing so all I have to do is adjust fast.”

According to Lang, Auburn would be like “playing in my back yard”

With three official visits set, and two remaining to be set, Auburn is absolutely in play for one.

“I will most likely take an official visit to Auburn,” Lang said. Auburn, of course, is just a quick drive up I-85 for Lang.

“It’s right up the road, like 30 minutes,” Lang said. “It’s good, so I feel like if I go to Auburn it’s going to be like playing in my back yard. My whole family, friends, teammates, they can all come see me play every Saturday.”

Lang insisted that Coach Will Friend and Coach Joe Bernardi are the two leading the Tigers’ recruiting efforts.

“It’s going good,” Lang said. They’ve been talking to me everyday–everyday.”

The big OL made it clear that the Tigers are recruiting him heavily.

“They’re coming after me hard”, Lang said.

The in-state OL will ride over to Auburn for Big Cat Weekend

Lang confirmed once again that he will be in Auburn for Big Cat Weekend.

“The main selling point to me was the food,” Lang said. “He said it’s going to be a big cookout, and I was like hey, I’m ready to eat.”

Auburn’s need at the offensive line position is something Lang is well-aware of. That is a plus for the versatile lineman.

“You know, the coaches, they’re never going to tell you–you should never go in there expecting you’re going to go in and start as a freshman,” Lang said. “I think with the depth chart, I feel like I can play earlier if I go there.”

Different schools see him at different positions. To Lang, he feels as though he fits anywhere on the offensive line.

“Guard and tackle,” Lang said. “I can play anything left tackle through right tackle, so it doesn’t really matter where I play.”

A commitment decision will come after he has wrapped up his official visits.

“It will probably be later in the season or on signing day, one of those two.”
