Eston Harris Jr. committed to Auburn on Thursday.

Harris, a four-star offensive lineman from Auburn High, had planned to make his announcement on his birthday, Oct. 28, but couldn’t wait.

“I just felt like the time was now,” Harris said. “I didn’t want to waste anymore time. I knew Auburn is the best place for me with the best opportunity.”

Although Harris publicly announced his decision on Thursday, he actually informed Auburn coach Bryan Harsin two days before.

“I called Coach Harsin on Tuesday and talked to him,” Harris said. “He told the staff and everybody was fired up. I was, too. It felt great and still does.”

Relationships, Harsin’s leadership impacted Eston Harris’ decision

Harris chose Auburn over his other finalists: Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Georgia and Oregon.

He had plenty of reasons for doing so.

“Auburn is home and I’ve built close relationships with the staff,” Harris said. “I also feel like I have a great opportunity to come in and play early. I feel like the best opportunity for me to succeed is at Auburn.”

And under Harsin.

Despite a 4-2 start to the season, Harris likes what he has seen from Harsin’s first team.

“I like what they have been doing,” Harris said. “They haven’t had a perfect season, but I see things from Auburn that I haven’t seen in the past. I really like what I’ve been seeing from them performance-wise.

“I like what Coach Harsin has been doing and is trying to do. I like how he is trying to rebuild the program. Coach Harsin is just getting started. He’s really coaching someone else’s guys, but he’s about to be getting his own guys.”

Eston Harris gives Auburn trifecta from Auburn High

Harris gives Auburn three commitments from Auburn High School. He joins close friends and teammates, offensive lineman Drew Bobo and linebacker Powell Gordon.

Gordon committed to Auburn in February. Bobo committed to Auburn on Sunday.

“I get to go in with a couple of brothers,” Harris said. “We get to go in and go through everything together. It will only make us closer than we already are.”

Harris, who is 6-foot-5 and 285 pounds, could play guard or tackle in college. Auburn offensive line coach Will Friend sees Harris as an early contributor inside.

“Coach Friend talked about starting me off as guard,” Harris said. “Wherever they need me to play, I will. Whatever is best for the team is where I will play.”

As for his recruitment, it’s over.

“I’m locked in,” Harris said. “When I say I’m committed, I’m committed.”
