The Sorey File

At 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, Sorey is a lengthy receiver with a frame to add good bulk on the next level.

He has the ability to out-leap defenders with a strong vertical. While his speed isn’t elite, Sorey is difficult to tackle in the open field. We saw that first hand when we scouted him in person early during his senior season. He can stop and start quickly as well as make defenders miss.

Sorey attacks the ball with his hands. He has a physical play style and isn’t easy to press at the line of scrimmage. His route running will need improvement on the next level, but his ability to win 50/50 balls helps balance that for now.

As of right now, Sorey’s football IQ shows up in his ability after the catch. Great playmakers have great natural instincts with the ball in their hands. Sorey is in that category.

SEC readiness

Breakdown from Auburn Live’s Cole Pinkston:

Sorey already is physically ready to play early. He has the size and frame that will translate well to the weight room and the brute nature of SEC secondaries. And we all know how much Tigers coach Hugh Freeze likes big receivers from his time at Ole Miss. That could bode well for Sorey.

The current Auburn receiver group still hasn’t proven a whole lot to this point. With multiple smaller, quicker receivers, there possibly might be an opening for a player with Sorey’s skillset.

Development of finer details is needed, but an early role in the rotation at Auburn shouldn’t be ruled out.
