Two Auburn football 2023 signees have yet to arrive on campus. Quientrail “Bobby” Travis, a 6-foot-4 275 pound defensive lineman from Council Bluffs, Iowa, Iowa Western C.C. and Daquayvious Sorey, a 6-foot-2 185 wide receiver from Chipley (Fla.) currently have unknown statuses with Auburn football.

Hugh Freeze, while at SEC Media Days, updated the feeling on what will happen with both of them.

“I feel really good about Bobby (Travis),” Freeze said while at SEC Media Days. “He’s finishing up his work and everything looks promising there. Not quite as good about (Daquayvious) Sorey.”

What Auburn would get from Travis

For a guy who weighs around 280 pounds, Travis moves extremely well. His athleticism is not of any concern whatsoever.

His ability to pursue is elite. Of course, that isn’t the best thing for an interior defensive lineman to have mastered, but it shows the athletic capability. There’s a lot to work with for Jeremy Garrett.

Could he play on the end as an edge setter/rusher? I wouldn’t rule it out. His skill set could translate there.

He sometimes has trouble fighting off of the block at the snap as a pass rusher. His mobility and pursuit are top-notch. He’s very quick and has good short-burst speed. When he figures out how to get off of blocks consistently, he could be a menace.

Where Travis may have some limitations as a plugger, he certainly has the tools to get after the quarterback. That is for sure.

Yes, he is inconsistent in shedding blocks, but when he does, he’s a disruptor. If he can cause chaos up front for Auburn, he will have a place in the line up.

For any defensive lineman that isn’t polished, just cause chaos and there will be a role available.

Travis more than likely will have a role in Auburn’s defense.
