Former four-star linebacker DeMario Tolan will transfer to Auburn.

Tolan, who left LSU after one season, signed with Auburn on Sunday, the University announced.

Tolan, who played in 12 games as a freshman in 2022, visited Auburn on Thursday. He also visited Missouri and considered an offer from Colorado.

Tolan was a four-star recruit, the No. 23 linebacker and No. 229 overall recruit, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally-weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Tolan, originally from Kissimmee, Fla., has three years of eligibility.

College football players have a 45-day window to enter the portal and find a new home. The window will close on Jan. 19 before reopening after spring for another 15-day window.

Once in the portal, players like Tolan are allowed to speak with coaches at other programs about transferring. Players also can visit other schools.

Auburn is expected to hit the transfer portal hard over the next 45 days. First-year coach Hugh Freeze said as much in his opening press conference.

“In Year One, the portal will be a big priority,” Freeze said. “I do believe in building (the roster) with high school kids and filling it in with the portal. Can we do that in Year One? I’m not sure yet, so I would anticipate it being heavier towards the portal.”
