Miami QB worth tracking and more South Florida intel

In case you haven’t noticed, Auburn does not have a quarterback on the 2023 commit list. Could that possibly change at some point?

It certainly might, given the possibility of off-season attrition at the position on the current roster.

Here is someone to watch.

Lost among a list of 5-stars and 4-stars from south Florida expected at Auburn next weekend for the Texas A&M game (STORY ON THAT HERE) — was the name Keyone Jenkins. He’s a 3-star quarterback from Miami (Fla.) Central currently committed to Florida International.

We’re told Auburn does have legitimate interest in him.

At last check, Jenkins had completed 79 of 130 passes for 1,316 yards, 18 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions. Central is 9-0, nationally ranked and has a win this season over national power Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy. This team may very well win the state title.

WAR ROOM: Auburn QB could be on the move, poaching season is underway

Why isn’t Jenkins, a 3-star recruit, rated higher? For starters, he’s in that 5-foot-11/6-foot range. Also, he doesn’t have that rocket arm someone his size would need to gain a fourth star. But what he does have is an incredibly high football IQ. And, he doesn’t lose much

Said a source who is plugged in down in South Florida: “He’s a winner that gets the ball there on time and he knows where to throw it. He runs that offense and has it humming. He’s a very smart kid.”

Like we said, Auburn’s interest in Jenkins is real. But will it offer? We aren’t sure just yet.

Meanwhile, here’s another reason Auburn fans may want to track Jenkins: He is very close with two other Auburn targets at Miami Central — 4-star edge Rueben Bain and 3-star receiver Lamar Seymore, a Pittsburgh commit. In fact, Bain is his cousin.

Coaching Hot Board v4.0: Is Dan Lanning a possibility?

The three have played together since they were 7.

To be clear, this isn’t some kind of packaged deal being worked out. But it certainly wouldn’t hurt Auburn’s chances with one if the Tigers can land one or two of the others.

***QUICK HITTERS***

-As for Seymore, yes, Auburn “100 percent” wants him, we are told.

-All told, the Tigers could have around 30 prospects from South Florida in town next weekend.

-The recruitment of 4-star linebacker Stanquan Clark of Miami Central might be a two-team race between Louisville and Miami. He’s committed to the Cardinals. As it turns out, though, his mother lives in Atlanta. That won’t hurt Auburn’s chances.
