Florida State dipped back into talent-rich South Florida on Friday and picked up a commitment from four-star cornerback Jamari Howard.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, the 6-foot-1 DB from Miami Norland is the No. 136 overall prospect in the country, the No. 17 corner, and the 19th-best player in Florida.

In some ways, this commitment felt like it was a long time coming, as Florida State was the perceived leader since he decommitted from Michigan State.

Howard visited Florida State once as a Michigan State commit in the spring, where he showed up in a full Florida State sweatsuit. And then he came back again for FSU’s Elite Camp in July after he decommitted from the Spartans.

Howard also attended the Florida State-LSU game in early September with FSU commit Ricky Knight. And after the July visit, Knight told Warchant he thought Florida State had a good chance to land Howard.

When Howard spoke with Warchant after his visit this spring, he said he connected with Florida State coach Mike Norvell and liked how the Seminoles’ staff operates.

“Everything was smooth. Everything was cool. Everything was good,” Howard said at the time. “Got to meet Mike Norvell again. I got to see a lot of what they do in practice and how they do their thing. Got to see a lot of new stuff in the facility.”

Overall, Norvell has been a huge factor in Howard’s recruitment.

“He’s a great coach,” Howard said. “He’s blood raw with you. He’s not going to sugarcoat anything. … He was giving it to me raw — how he really wants to coach me and everything. He wants to produce me and get me to the next level.

“I feel great about it.”
