Roll Tribe! FSU lands another 'Bama transfer as LB Shawn Murphy commits
The Florida State football team has landed yet another Alabama transfer, and this one comes at a huge position of need.
Linebacker Shawn Murphy, who entered the transfer portal this weekend after the retirement of legendary head coach Nick Saban, almost immediately scheduled a visit to Florida State. He announced his commitment to the Seminoles on Monday after visiting that day.
Murphy is Florida State’s fifth Alabama-to-Florida State transfer this cycle, joining DB Earl Little Jr., RB Roydell Williams, OL Terrence Ferguson and WR Malik Benson.
Out of high school in 2022, Murphy did visit Florida State, and the ‘Noles were actually one of his top choices at the time.
This is another prospect where Florida State was able to get a second chance and cashed in.
Murphy is a former four-star prospect from Unity Reed High in Manassas, Va. According to On3, he was a top-75 player nationally, a top-10 linebacker, and the second-best prospect in Virginia.
Murphy comes to FSU as a redshirt sophomore with three years of eligibility remaining. In 2023, he played in 13 games for the Crimson Tide, primarily on special teams, totaling three tackles. In the few games he played in 2022, he had two total tackles and one pass deflection.
According to the Alabama roster, he stands at 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds.
Murphy’s addition fills a big need for the Seminoles as they have lost starting linebackers Tatum Bethune and Kalen DeLoach to graduation.
