BOX SCORE RECAP: Hawkeyes blitz the Buckeyes
A matchup of two top 15 teams, Carver-Hawkeye Arena played host the biggest game of the season to date on Sunday afternoon. The Hawkeyes delivered a beat down, defeating the 12th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes 91-70 for their third consecutive win against a ranked opponent. With the win, the Hawkeyes move to 18-2 on the season and 9-0 in Big Ten play.
The contest got off to a grim start, with Taylor McCabe going down with an injury and OSU jumping out to an early 8-2 advantage. Iowa responded with great energy, closing the quarter on a 22-6 run to take a 24-14 lead after ten minutes. The Buckeyes couldn’t answer. The Hawkeyes knocked down five second quarter threes and built a 48-32 halftime lead. That lead didn’t slip very much in the second half. It grew to as large as 23 points in the fourth quarter.
Iowa scored 91 points on 75 possessions (1.213 points per possession), while shooting 37-of-64 (57.8%) from the floor, 9-of-22 (40.9%) from three-point range and 8-of-12 (66.7%) from the free throw line. Addie Deal was crucial with McCabe out, leading the way with 20 points, three rebounds and five assists. Hannah Stuelke recorded a double-double 18 points and 15 rebounds, while Ava Heiden added 18 points and eight rebounds. Chit-Chat Wright also finished in double figures with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Ohio State scored 70 points on 75 possessions (0.933 points per possession), while shooting 24-of-69 (34.8%) from the floor, 14-of-34 (41.2%) from three-point range and 8-of-11 (72.7%) from the free throw line. Jaloni Cambridge led the way with a game-high 26 points and ten rebounds, while Chance Gray added 16 points.
The Hawkeyes outrebounded the Buckeyes 48-30, pulling down 40-of-48 (83.3%) defensive rebounds and 8-of-30 (26.7%) offensive rebounds. The turnover battle went in favor of the Buckeyes, turning it over 11 times to 15 turnovers for the Hawkeyes. The Hawkeyes outscored Ohio State 25-18 in points off turnovers/second chance points. Iowa also won the battle inside, outscoring the Buckeyes 42-14 in points in the paint.
