The Big Blue Nation loves the tight end position. Targets for the tight ends in the passing game is typically a popular talking point within the Kentucky football fan base. New offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan plans to utilize the position in Lexington.

Hamdan’s first full-time coaching job came as the tight ends coach at Sacramento State in 2011. In his second season as an offensive coordinator at Washington in 2019, Hunter Bryant led the team in receiving yards (825) and finished second in receptions (52). When the personnel is available, Hamdan’s offense can feature the position.

After wrapping up spring practice No. 2 on Thursday, Hamdan discussed the tight end room he inherited in Lexington. The depth in Vince Marrow‘s position room is intriguing.

“I think that’s the one position where you can find a guy that’s extremely good in the run game and create a bunch of opportunities for him in the pass game. We’re looking at opportunities there,” Hamdan told the media. “I think this tight end group is probably as deep as any other unit on the offensive side of the ball.”

“We’re excited to find ways to continue to get them the ball.”

Jordan Dingle and Josh Kattus are each back for their junior season at Kentucky after playing major snaps in 2023. Former four-star recruit Khamari Anderson flashed as a true freshman and should have a role in the offense this season. Willie Rodriguez was big recruiting win in the 2024 cycle. The Covington (Ky.) Catholic product had other SEC options and will arrive on campus in the summer. The tight end room is a positional strength for Kentucky.

The hype at wide receiver is off and running early in spring practice, but the tight end position will have a role in the Kentucky offense. Hamdan has experience featuring the position, and asking the tight end room to play a high volume of snaps. The Wildcats will have a plan to use this position in 2024.

That is music to the Big Blue Nation’s ears.
