Former Kentucky Basketball great Darius Miller was a special guest on Wednesday’s KSR show, part of a media tour to promote a new Christmas toy drive that he is hosting with The Alumni Center. Aaron Harrison will help kick that off this Friday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at 3801 Mall Road in Lexington.

Beyond the holiday giving season, Darius Miller shared with KSR stories from his past, things like the changes from Billy Gillispie in his freshman year to John Calipari in his second, and the immediate impact it had on the program. He also shared his passion for Kentucky and how it’s a lifelong relationship, not just his time in the uniform.

The current state of the Wildcats also came up in the conversation. Miller still believes Kentucky can turn it around, much like his junior-year team in 2010-11, which took early losses and then made an NCAA run to the championship game.

“I think injuries played a part,” Miller said of the current early-season struggles. “I think they have talent. I still believe in Coach Pope 1,000%. I think they just got to figure it out, honestly. There’s just so much that goes into winning a basketball game, especially against another good team, but I truly believe that us playing this strength of schedule, the way that Coach Pope is–we saw last night that he’s holding people accountable.”

Miller is a believer, and it comes from firsthand experience with a Kentucky team that struggled early. “We struggled up until the end of the SEC,” Miller admitted.
