LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier shares his expectations for spring ball growth

LSU landed in the Top 7 schools for 2025 Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist running back James Simon, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Thursday. The Tigers were joined by Alabama, Louisiana Tech, Miami, Texas, Texas A&M, and Notre Dame.

For Simon, there are plenty of ties to Baton Rouge with his family and the coaching staff. LSU’s been recruiting him for a while now and is making him a priority.

“Since they started recruiting me it’s always been a family motive,” Simon told Fawcett. “Also not only will I be playing for an elite program, I’ll be surrounded by elite people that I can call family.”

LSU running backs coach Frank Wilson has another in-state running back committed in Harlem Berry, but wants to get Simon on board in a big way.

“They’ve been emphasizing how bad they want me there,” Simon told On3 earlier this year, “and if I were to go, what it would look like for me there, the plan for me system-wise, play-style wise, and depth-chart wise …. all the things if I was a player there.”

“It’s been fun having them talk to me and as all the guys in Louisiana start committing,” Simon added. “They’ve been trying to jump on that and the push has always been coming harder since (they) committed.”

Simon will be back at LSU this weekend for a visit as the Tigers already hold a commanding lead on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Simon ranks as the No. 151 player in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also tabs in as the No. 9 running back and the No. 4 player in the state of Louisiana.
