2023 LSU defensive back commit Daylen Austin notched a pick-six on Friday in Long Beach Poly’s win. Check out the big play below by the four-star prospect.

The Tigers picked up his commitment earlier this year and he’s remained firm despite pushes from programs like Oregon and others. He was in Baton Rouge earlier this month.

Daylen Austin ranks as the No. 151 overall prospect and No. 17 cornerback in the nation, according to On3. According to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Austin ranks as the No. 125 overall prospect and No. 17 cornerback nationally.

Like Austin told On3 earlier this year, track was important in his improvement. Poly coach Stephen Barbee sees the same improvement in his speed thanks to competing in track.

“Speed. He ran track. Incredible multi-sport athlete. When you’re running sub 11 100s, it’s a big difference than an 11.2, 11.3 guy,” Barbee explained. “He was the anchor for our state ranked 4×100 team. When he’s able to catch a punt and he’s gone. A leader, really being the focal point as one of our two team captains. The maturity that he’s had is great to see in your team leader.”

Daylen Austin scouting report

“Brings a combination of size, athleticism and playmaking to the table at cornerback. He has solid size at 5-foot-11.5, 176 pounds. Austin has shown some improved speed this spring, running 10.82 seconds in the 100 meters. He had a strong junior season and really excelled as a return man. We saw Austin’s playmaking ability on display as he took several kick and punt returns to the house. He drives on the ball in coverage. Austin also shows ball skills at corner with the ability to track and high-point the ball downfield.”

Daylen Austin has an On3 NIL Valuation of $140K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets the standard market NIL value for high school and college athletes. While the algorithm includes deal data, it does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals athletes have completed to date, nor does it set an athlete’s NIL valuation for their entire career. The On3 NIL Valuation calculates the optimized NIL opportunity for athletes relative to the overall NIL market and projects out to as long as 12 months into the future.
