Michigan State added another defensive back to its 2024 recruiting class on July 4. Three-star Providence (R.I.) La Salle Academy defensive back Justin Denson Jr. announced his commitment to the Spartans.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound recruit picked Michigan State over Oklahoma, Florida, Alabama, and Texas A&M. Denson received an offer from Alabama on June 9. He held additional offers from Notre Dame, South Carolina, Penn State, Tennessee, and more.

Denson officially visited East Lansing June 23-25. Florida hosted the three-star on an official visit June 9-11. Denson also took an official visit to Oklahoma on June 16-18.

The Spartans held a commanding lead heading into Denson’s official visit, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). Michigan State were the favorites with a 93.9% chance to land the three-star. Denson received three On3 Expert Predictions on June 21, just days prior to his East Lansing visit.

The three-star is the No. 657 recruit in the nation, according to the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings. He is also the No. 67 safety and the No. 1 recruit in Rhode Island.

Michigan State secondary coach Harlon Barnett, cornerbacks coach Jim Salgado, and head coach Mel Tucker all played a role in landing the three-star.

“They are my dawgs,” Denson told SpartanMag.com prior to his official visit. “I love them over there. I love them. Our relationship is like no other. (Harlon Barnett) is just an amazing person. My mom loves him, so everyone loves him on my end. He is just a great guy.”

Denson is the No. 11 Michigan State Class of 2024 commit. He joins Dayton (Ohio) Centerville four-star safety Reggie Powers, Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Riverdale three-star cornerback Jaylen Thompson, Syracuse (N.Y.) Christian Brothers Academy three-star defensive back Syair Torrence, and Tampa (Fla.) Bay Tech three-star cornerback Camren Campbell as the fifth defensive back commit.
