2024 Rockledge (Fla.) High four-star safety Jaylen Heyward — the No. 96 overall player in his class per the On3 Industry Ranking — decommitted from Georgia Tuesday. Per TheWolverine.com‘s EJ Holland, Michigan, which offered him back in May 2022, has continued to recruit Heyward.

“Athletic defensive back with the skills to line up at multiple spots in the secondary,” On3’s scouting summary says of Heyward. “Measured at around 5-foot-10.5, 180 pounds prior to his junior season. A strong athlete who also excels as a sprinter in track and field. Was a state finalist in the 100 meters as a junior with a 10.79 second mark. Primarily lined up as a cornerback as a junior, despite being considered as a safety prospect. Could feasibly play multiple spots in the secondary at the college level.”

Michigan graduate linebacker Michael Barrett decided to return for his sixth season with the Wolverines, and he feels as though he hit his stride at the tail end of the 2022 campaign. Barrett racked up 11 of his 72 tackles on the season in the 45-23 win at Ohio State, U-M’s first victory in Columbus since 2000, and went on to have 10 stops the next week against Purdue in the Big Ten championship game.

The highlight of his season besides his two interceptions at Rutgers was, perhaps, his bone-crushing hit on a receiver who caught a short pass near the sideline in Michigan’s win over the Buckeyes.

“That was my first time ever there [in Columbus,]” Barrett told TheWolverine.com. “The only other time we traveled there was my freshman year, and freshmen didn’t really travel much. That was my first time in the ‘Shoe, first time seeing it. It felt great, man. Felt great. I kept saying I felt like a villain walking into it, like the whole city was all over you.

“Being able to come out of there with a win, silence that crowd I knew was ready to explode … it felt great. They say big time players make big time plays in big time games. You’ve got to be able to step up and when your time comes, when those big games come, you’ve got to be able to step up and make plays.”

Here are Barrett’s two picks — including a pick-six — against Rutgers. He sparked Michigan’s huge second half in the 52-17 win. The Wolverines actually were trailing, 17-14, at halftime.

PFF lays out Michigan’s secondary and ponders if they’re the best in the country.

After missing the NCAA Tournament last season for the first time since 2015, the Michigan basketball team has plenty to prove. It’s not just returning players, either, but even newcomers like Alabama transfer Nimari Burnett.

Michigan senior wide receiver Roman Wilson showed his speed on many occasions last season, including against Hawai’i, his home-state team.

Quote Of The Day

“At the end of the day, we want to be balanced. That’s very cliché to say, but if you’re not, you’re predictable. We don’t want to be predicable. I want to do everything we can to attack defenses, attack weaknesses in different ways whether it’s the run, pass, play action, screen, perimeter run, downhill run, over the top, or intermediate. We just have all the tools available to us to attack defenses any way we need to get the ‘W’ at the end of the day.”
