Purdue adds Dave Steckel as senior defensive analyst
In addition to the moves lamented earlier, Purdue has also added Dave Steckel as a senior defensive analyst, GoldandBlack.com has learned.
Steckel was the Missouri State head coach from 2015-19, where he went 13-42.
Prior to that, he worked at Missouri, where he overlapped with Barry Odom. Steckel served as the LB coach from 2001-2008, then defensive coordinator and linebackers coach in 2009-2010 and defensive coordinator and associate head coach from 2011-2014.
Odom replaced him at Mizzouri’s defensive coordinator in 2015, when Steckel took the head coaching job at Missouri State.

Steckel has been in college coaching since 1982, dating back to his stint as a graduate assistant at Miami (OH). He’s also spent time at Minnesota, Toledo, Rutgers, Lehigh, and Ball State.
Steckel joins a different looking staff of Barry Odom which has featured several changes already this off-season. Kevin Kane replaced Mike Scherer as defensive coordinator, Bilal Marshall was elevated to wide receivers coach, while Cornell Ford moved from wide receivers to running backs coach. Zach Crabtree came from Fresno State to replace Vance Vice. Defensive backs coach Charles Clark also added defensive pass game coordinator to his title.
