Lake City (Fla.) Columbia class of 2023 four-star linebacker Jaden Robinson visited the South Carolina football program so many times that he finally decided to stay a while.

Today, Robinson announced a commitment to the Gamecocks, choosing South Carolina over his other finalists, Kentucky, Michigan and Maryland.

The 6-foot-1, 212-pound standout visited the Gamecocks on a camp day last summer, was back in Columbia for games in the fall, followed by a junior day and spring game trip, and then an official visit in June.

“I have that connection with Coach (Shane) Beamer at South Carolina,” Robinson told On3 prior to announcing his decision. “I’ve been going there since my 10th-grade year and I’ve been there about five times. We have a great connection and it’s the longest connection I’ve had with any of these schools.”

Robinson was recruited to Columbia by defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Clayton White as well as area recruiter Sterling Lucas, who took over Robinson’s territory after Mike Peterson went back to Florida.

The On3 Consensus – a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies – ranks Robinson as the No. 35 linebacker and the No. 377 overall prospect in his class. He also ranks as the No. 72 prospect in Florida.

Robinson is the second four-star linebacker in the Gamecocks’ 2023 class joining Jacksonville (Fla.) Andrew Jackson’s Grayson “Pup” Howard.

Robinson is the 13th overall commitment in South Carolina football’s 2023 class and extends what has been a productive holiday weekend for the Gamecocks.

On Saturday, Sandersville (Ga.) Washington County 2023 four-star running back Dontavius Braswell committed to the Gamecocks.

A few hours later, Carolina landed its first 2024 pledge with the commitment of Fiskdale (Mass.) The Loomis Chaffee four-star quarterback Dante Reno.

Back in February, Robinson gave high marks to the South Carolina football staff during a conversation with GamecockCentral.com.

“Coach White, it’s starting to really come along,” Robinson said of his relationship with the Gamecocks’ defensive coordinator. “We’re really starting to get close and the bond is there. When he was showing me how I would be in the defense, and fitting in. And how I would come in and play. I was also talking to the new coach, Coach Lucas. I like him a lot. He was treating me like family. I’m cool with him. He’s cool.”
