Just five days after announcing his decommitment from Auburn, Ellaville (Ga.) Schley County class of 2024 four-star athlete Jalewis Solomon has officially announced his commitment to South Carolina.

Solomon — at the center of an intense down-to-the-wire battle between South Carolina and Auburn two months ago when he originally committed to the Tigers — committed to the Gamecocks on Sunday after visiting for the Florida game on Saturday.

Solomon gave Shane Beamer the news in person on Sunday afternoon, prompting the head coach’s signature #WelcomeHome Tweet.

“I like Auburn a lot and they did nothing wrong, but my interest has just always been high on South Carolina,” Solomon told On3’s Chad Simmons. “South Carolina made me feel at home, they always made me feel important and it is where I want to be.

The 6-foot, 185-pounder originally committed to Auburn in early August.

Adding Solomon to the Gamecocks’ class is a big win for defensive backs coach Torrian Gray, who was at Solomon’s game a few weeks ago.

While Solomon is listed as an “athlete” on On3, Gray wants Solomon to play defense for him and there’s a strong relationship there.

“It’s close, it’s tight,” Solomon said in June. “He was a defensive back himself, so just talking with Nick (Emmanwori), and Nick was telling me how good of a coach Coach Gray was. And I could see that, and I could see that he loves putting his players on, and he loves playing his freshmen.”

Solomon is the No. 272 overall prospect and No. 10 athlete in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 31 player in Georgia.

Solomon is the 16th verbal pledge to South Carolina’s Top 25 2024 recruiting class.

He is the 10th four-star (or higher) prospect in the class and the fourth commitment who is slated to play defensive back joining Kelvin Hunter, Braylon Lee, and David Bucey.
