George Macintyre Details His Commitment To Josh Heupel And Tennessee

Tennessee football has landed its quarterback in the class of 2025 in in-state star George MacIntrye. In front of family in friends, the five-star QB announced his decision Monday morning with a video of his journey to join the Vols.

“I’ve been blessed with so many great opportunities to follow my dream of playing college football and I’m grateful for every one of them. But there’s always been one place close to my heart. It’s where I learned about family and faith and where’s I was born to play football.

“From Nashville to Knoxville, from the Mississippi to the Smokies, there’s just something special about Tennessee. This isn’t a decision, it’s a calling. And Volunteers answer the call.

“Rocky Top, I’m staying home.”

The 6-foot-6 Brentwood Academy standout is ranked as the 3rd best quarterback in the class of 2025. A consensus four start, MacIntyre chose the Vols over Alabama and LSU.

The MacIntyre family is no stranger to college football and the SEC. George is the grandson of former Vanderbilt coach George MacIntyre, who was named SEC and national coach of the year in 1982. Mike MacIntyre, George’s uncle, coached at San Jose State, Colorado and FIU and in the NFL.

Tennessee clearly made McIntyre their priority at quarterback in the class of 2025 and it’s was MacIntyre’s relationships with Vols head coach Josh Heupel and offensive coordinator Joey Halzle that was the difference.

“He never put like a full court press on me with his words in recruiting. He kind of did it with his actions. I like coach Heup a lot. We are similar. He was a quarterback. The big thing for me going in is that I know he has been there and done that. He’s been a Heisman finalist. He’s been a great coach for a while. Coach Heupel is definitely a very big part of my commitment.”

“I like coach Halzle. I have been around him a lot. I really like that he’s a ball coach. He’s not big into all the recruiting stuff. He wants you to know that when you get there, you are going to get developed and run their system.”
