Inside Texas previews the upcoming decision for the 6-foot-3, 270-pound On3 three-star prospect from South Louisiana.

The player: Melvin Hills, DL, Lafayette (La.) Lafayette Christian Academy

The measurables: 6-foot-3, 270 pounds

The date: Wednesday, July 12th

The rating: 87.83 (three-star)

The ranking: Hills is the No. 465 overall prospect and No. 39 defensive lineman in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He is also the No. 11 player in Louisiana.

On3 rates Hills higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Even though he is not ranked in the 2024 On300, Hills is the No. 23 defensive lineman in the county and No. 6 player in Louisiana.

The evaluation: “Melvin Hills, a 6-foot-4, 270-pound DL, largely occupied the 4- and 5-gaps and was a force with a two-sack effort. He was consistently able to collapse the pocket and force opposing quarterbacks out of the pocket. A massive presence along the defensive line, Hill was able to assist in controlling the outside run game well. There’s still room for Hills to grow, but he flashed as a DL capable of playing multiple spots up front and generating an interior pass rush.” – On3’s Sam Spiegelman

The finalists: Texas, Ole Miss, LSU, Auburn, Tennessee

The official visits: Texas (June 16-18) and Ole Miss (June 9-11)

Recruiting Prediction Machine: 94.5% in favor of the Longhorns, 1.9% in favor of the Rebels, 1.1% in favor of the Tigers.
