The first national signing day for college football begins December 20 and runs through December 22. This series gives you the chance to familiarize yourself with the next class charged with keeping Texas in a position of national prominence.

To win at a consistently high level means stacking talented class after talented class. The top-five 2024 class does just that following top-five finishes in the 2022 and 2023 classes.

On the first national signing day, Inside Texas will offer profiles of each member of the 2024 signing class. Up next, Freddie Dubose.

The Player: Freddie Dubose, WR, San Antonio (Texas) Smithson Valley

The Rating: 89.52 (four-star)

The Ranking: Dubose is ranked as the No. 366 overall prospect, the No. 59 wide receiver, and the No. 58 player in Texas according to the On3 Industry Ranking. On3 ranks Dubose as the No. 53 wide receiver and the No. 58 prospect in Texas.

The Recruitment: A knee injury was a significant event in Dubose’s recruitment. Prior to the knee ailment that knocked him out before his junior year, Texas A&M, Tennessee, and UTSA were contending for the athletic receiver with excellent track numbers. Dubose worked to rehab and once Texas felt confident in his health, they worked to add him to the class. Dubose committed following his June 2023 official visit.

The Projection: Dubose will have some work to do refining his game after injury and time spent in high school but his athleticism should help him become a great downfield threat. Dubose placed third in the 400m UIL 5A State Finals in 2023 with a time of 48.68. He also has a 22-10 long jump and 47-2.75 triple jump to his name.

The Reasoning: “First and foremost, man, that coaching staff is something different. They’re real about what they say and being able to play under Chris Jackson with all the experience he has had before, it put me in a good position to know that he can help me even more (with) trying to achieve my goal of going to the league, developing me to be the best I can be on and off the field at all times as a man and a player. And as they say, it’s a 40-year decision, not a four-year decision. I feel like Texas is everywhere and when football comes to an end, I know Texas’ family will take care of me for the rest of my life.”

The Enrollment: Dubose will enroll in the summer.

The Final Word: Dubose is one of the best athletes in the class and could have an extremely high ceiling thanks to that state-champion level athleticism as long as he works to refine his skill at the receiver position.
