Why 2026 Long Snapper Trott O’Neal Committed to Texas

Texas continues to stack talent in the 2026 class with the recent commitment of long snapper Trott O’Neal out of Prestonwood Christian Academy in Dallas. O’Neal visited Austin this past weekend and quickly made his decision official. Just days later, Texas special teams coordinator Jeff Banks stopped by the school, further signaling how much of a priority O’Neal was for the Longhorns.

I caught up with O’Neal after his commitment to get insight into his decision and what ultimately led him to choose Texas.
“You were on campus last weekend, then Coach Banks came to visit you right after,” I said. “What was your thought process behind committing, and what stood out about the Texas program?”
O’Neal responded with confidence.
“I really liked the coaching staff — they were incredible,” he said. “It was a no-brainer for me. Being from Dallas, Texas has always been a school I’ve followed closely and liked. When the opportunity came, it just felt right.”

O’Neal’s connection with the coaching staff and the opportunity to stay in-state at a program he’s admired for years made the decision an easy one. His addition reinforces Texas’ commitment to strengthening every phase of the game — including special teams.
O’Neal is easily one of the most exciting prospects in the 2026 class. He has impressive size and uses it extremely well in his snapping motion. O’Neal attended the 2024 Kohl’s Spring Texas Showcase and finished with the 3rd highest overall charting score in the country. At the 2025 Kohl’s Underclassman Challenge, he showed the same great consistency with his accuracy and ball rotation and we have grown accustomed too. O’Neal has the snapping talent and physical attributes every coach is looking for in their starting snapper.

By landing O’Neal, the Longhorns add a steady and reliable prospect at a specialized position. For the Dallas native, suiting up for Texas is more than just a football decision — it’s the realization of a lifelong dream.
