USC cornerbacks coach Donte Williams announces departure from program

USC cornerbacks coach Donte Williams announced Saturday that his time with the Trojans’ program is over.
“I would like to thank Coach Helton, Coach Riley, and all the amazing coaches I was able to work with and learn from these past four years at USC,” Williams posted to social media. “I am also thankful for Mike Bohn, Brandon Sosna, President Folt, and the administration who were welcoming and extremely easy to work with throughout my time here.”
Williams is set to become the new defensive backs coach at Georgia.
USC hired Williams away from Oregon in February of 2020 to become the Trojans’ cornerbacks coach and passing game coordinator under defensive coordinator Todd Orlando and head coach Clay Helton. It was seen as a massive win as Williams had a long history of success on the recruiting trail and was seen as arguably the Pac-12’s best recruiter.
Williams continued to recruit well for the Trojans, landing four-star Ceyair Wright in the 2021 class and five-star Plus+ Domani Jackson in 2022.

Williams also stepped in as the interim head coach for USC during the 2021 season after Helton was relieved of duties following the second game of the season. The Trojans finished the season just 3-7 under Williams, but that was a difficult situation for Williams, who had no head coaching experience prior to that.
He was the only assistant coach from the Helton staff retained by Lincoln Riley when he took over as head coach ahead of the 2022 season.
Williams stops prior to USC included Oregon, Nebraska, Arizona and San Jose State.
