USC running back Matt Colombo enters transfer portal

USC running back Matt Colombo entered the transfer portal on Friday in search of a new home to finish out his college career.
The 5-foot-10, 195-pound back began his USC career as a walk-on in 2020 and quickly earned the respect of his Trojan teammates for his work ethic and attitude. Colombo saw action in four games this season and logged the first carry of his USC career against San Jose State in the 2023 season opener. It went for a seven-yard gain.
Colombo participated in the senior walk before USC’s game against UCLA to end the regular season. He will enter the transfer portal as a graduate student and said in his announcement that he has three years of eligibility remaining.

“I would like to thank my family, and all those who supported me including the University of Southern California,” Colombo said in a statement. “Thank you to all of the coaches, staff members, fans, and especially my teammates; I have made memories and connections that will last me a lifetime.”
Colombo is the fifth Trojan to enter the transfer portal this offseason. Defensive lineman Jamar Sekona, who was not on the roster this fall, was the first. Following him, safety Xamarion Gordon, running back Darwin Barlow and tight end Jude Wolfe all entered their names into the transfer portal. Wide receiver Raleek Brown announced he will enter his name when the winter window opens on Monday. Players going in now are either graduate transfers or their head coaches have left the school. Monday, the portal opens to all football players for 30 days.
