The USC Trojans (1-0) welcome former head coach Clay Helton and his Georgia Southern Eagles (0-1) to the Coliseum this Saturday afternoon. The Trojans are coming off a dominant 73-13 win against Missouri State last week and will be hoping for a similar performance against the Eagles.

Trojans vs. Eagles game notes

* This will be the first-ever meeting between these two programs.

* USC is coming off the win against Missouri State in which the Trojans scored their most points in a game since 1930 and their most points in a season-opener since 1929.

* USC quarterback Jayden Maiava was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week following his performance going 15-of-18 passing for 295 yards and three total touchdowns in just one half of action.

* Georgia Southern is coming off a 42-14 loss to Fresno State. The Eagles took a 14-13 lead into halftime and then punted on all five of its second-half possessions. Georgia Southern’s longest second-half drive covered just 18 yards.

* Georgia Southern remained in California following that loss to Fresno State and is spending these week in Oxnard at the Dallas Cowboys’ training facility rather than making the return trip to between Georgia and California.

* The Eagles are led offensively by quarterback JC French IV. He completed 17-of-28 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns against one interception last week. He’s a bit of a running threat and added 15 yards on four carries without taking a sack. In his career, he’s completed 65.9% of his passes for 3,111 yards and 20 touchdowns against 13 interceptions.

* Fresno State ran up 351 rushing yards among its 527 yards against Georgia Southern. That’s the most rushing yards by the Bulldogs in a game since 2014.

* Georgia Southern was led in rushing in Game 1 by running back OJ Arnold, who had nine carries for 41 yards. Wide receiver Camden Brown, an Auburn transfer, led the way for receivers with four receptions for 55 yards and a touchdown.
