WeAreSC On3 is a daily three-point briefing recapping news and notes surrounding USC Athletics. Today, we take a look at more anger towards USC over the signing of Jordan Addison, Matt Leinart calling for the return of Reggie Bush’s Heisman Trophy, and another disappointing USC Baseball season coming to a close.

More Addison Anger

The anger towards USC over the signing of Jordan Addison reached an entirely new level on Sunday. Pittsburgh-area sports talk radio host Andrew Fillipponi took to the airwaves and had some . . . choice words to say about Lincoln Riley and the Trojans’ program.

“I hope USC loses every game this year,” Fillipponi ranted. “And if I saw Lincoln Riley, I would pick him up over my head . . . and slam his ass. Because I could probably beat up Lincoln Riley. One of the few people in major collegiate sports that I feel comfortable if I saw the guy in a dark alley, I could beat the snot out of him.”

“I want them to get the death penalty,” Fillipponi would go on to add. “I want them to blow up the L.A. Coliseum. I want them to disband their college football program.”

Reggie’s Heisman Returned?

Given all of the recent drama surrounding NIL in college football, many people are starting to look back on NCAA violations of past eras and wonder if they should be re-evaluated.

Over the weekend, former USC quarterback Matt Leinart decided to use the sport’s changing landscape as an opportunity to call for the return of Reggie Bush‘s Heisman Trophy.

After winning the award in 2005, the former USC running back had his trophy stripped in 2010 due to the fact that he received approximately $300,000 from an agent while still in college. However, with athletes today receiving NIL deals worth significantly more than that, many are starting to question Bush’s trophy remaining vacated.

Another Baseball Disappointment

USC Baseball was swept by Stanford over the weekend, closing out yet another disappointing season for the Trojans’ program.

USC finishes the season in last place in the Pac 12 at 25-28. This marks the team’s second consecutive losing season under head coach Jason Gill. In addition, the LA Times recently published a lengthy piece detailing many of USC’s culture problems under Gill.

Gill’s future with the program will be a hot topic over the coming days. Ultimately, the decision on his fate will rest in the hands of athletic director Mike Bohn. It should be noted that Bohn did not hire Gill. The embattled baseball coach was one of Lynn Swann’s final hires as USC athletic director back in 2019.
