Are We Sleeping on Ashton Daniels?

I know for his career, his stats are very pedestrian. But his last two games were pretty elite overall. He put up nearly 370 yards of offense against Bama, and 442 yards against Vandy. Maybe the light finally clicked. That’s pretty dang impressive.

No we're not he's likely a mediocre QB that played good because of a rivaly and aganst highly ranked vandy team. He was up for those games. Under norvell he will play to the level of the competition. He'll play good vs Alabama or Clemson and fall short. Then throw 5 ints look like he's never played football @ Miami come home lose a close acc home game and Mike will give a speech about he knows who the team is and will start someone else. If he had a light come on it's going to be cut off under Norvell and his QB development. Daniels and the other QBs just came here because they saw an easy path to get on the field under Norvell start a few games not to do anything serious.

Either that, or the coach who took over for Huge Freeze was an elite game planner and play caller. We'll find out soon enough with our man CMN running the offense again!

I will say this, I would take him over another year with TC, at least there is the potential for some upside. Problem is he was brought in to run Gus’ offense and of course he just quit on us. Maybe the guy we should all be hoping we are sleeping on is Tim Harris.

By comedians do you mean realists? Daniels has been a college QB for four years at two different schools. He has 24 TDs and 22 interceptions (career). Auburn benched him because he’s not any good. He had two good games to end last season. Is it possible that he’s suddenly jumped from a below average QB to elite all of a sudden? Sure. Is it likely? Hell no.

All he has to do is hit wide open receivers and not turn the ball over. I think Mike goes back to his Memphis offense this year, which he ran in 2022 here. That’s what he is good at. In 2022, he diversified his run game and ran a lot more Outside Zone. All Daniel’s or Sperry has to do is not “f” up and throw to the very talented WR’s that this team has. I actually prefer Sperry over Daniel’s. Like I have said many times over, I am far more worried about the defense because of my lack of faith in TW. The guy has never even coached a team, as DC, that has won 10 games. Hopefully, the LB’s will learn to cover in space and the DL can get pressure on the QB.

We’re betting the season on him. FWIW, my Auburn buddy watched him finish up the year and was positive on his play. I can understand those who are skeptical based on his results to date.

much much, much, much, better passer than TC and given that TC only ran in 3 P4 games bama, NC st and UF he will also be a better runner over 12 games

No, he means nattering nabobs of negativity who come on this board to squash any mention of the possibility of a positive outcome. It’s literally all they contribute to any thread.

Nothing personal against Daniels but I’m hoping for Sperry. The program desperately needs at least one home grown QB to develop since we clearly won’t pay for one from the portal.

It's possible we are. It's also possible to pick the 2 first games of last year with Tommy and say that's what his potential looked like. There's only one way to know for sure what the truth is, and we're about 6 months from it.

I don't think it is possible to sleep on Ashton Daniels. Look at what Tommy did to the 23 team. Then look at Ashton against Vandy and Bama. That one great game for Tommy didn't mean much of anything. Ashton is as regarded as he should be with his level of accomplishments. Which is not much. We hope he surprises us but no one is counting on it happening.

Well. If he could have gotten a much better deal than FSU, he would have. His deal is probably good, not great, but that tells you something. I will try to be optimistic, but I am not hopeful of any Norvell offense, at this point. Norvell's offense has been garbage at FSU since he came. Only when JT was a running threat with some decent talent around him was the offense decent, but it was never great nor consistently even good, even during 2023 before JT got hurt.

Doubt it. if he does good thats great to think its going to happen is probably overly optimitic.

We don't need Tom Brady to be successful. We just need someone who can see the field and make good decisions. There's plenty of playmakers around him to do some damage if we give them a chance. We might actually have multiple guys in our qb room who could fill that role.

When Bro Hugh was fired and was no longer the play caller, Ashton took off imho…i believe he will be a significant upgrade
