You can't tell me she's not one of the 5 best players in the NCAA. Third in scoring in D1 and runaway steals leader. She's being punished for a mediocre team record but that shouldn't detract from her accomplishments. BS.

It's a joke, as she is a strong candidate for player of the year nationally. She is the first player ever to avg. 25 pts., 5 Rebounds, 5 Assists and 5 Steals per game. No player ever did that, yet she is only 2nd team. It is freaking laughable how inept those voters are, inept and totally biased againg anyting doing with ND. If Hannah had those numbers on UCONN, she would easily be voted national player of the year.

We know why she wasn't selected. The media's disdain for her was apparent from the start of the season (and has been a theme even going back to her high school career). Just think how hard it was for her to be named player of the year in her own conference. They don't like Notre Dame, and they don't like Hannah Hidalgo. She actually received more first-team votes than a player on the first-team. I do believe there was manipulation with the voting, with people leaving her off of second-team to hurt her chances of making first-team. It only make the voters look worse. I thought this was by far her best season, not only with stats, but just what she puts on tape. I don't believe there's anyone affiliated with ND who votes for the AP poll for women's basketball (not 100% sure), while UCONN has 4 people. They're a mob that wants to control women's basketball.

She should follow the Freeman mantra “Leave no Doubt.” But then again based on this years stats she already did.

UCONN - ranked #1 UCLA - ranked #2 Texas - ranked #3 Vandy - ranked #6 If you combine the loses for these four teams, it is lower (8) than the number of loses ND had (10). Winning matters.

It is nonsense to expect her to do more than she is doing now.

These voters really make poor judgements sometimes. Their “membership” should be eligible for review when they terribly miss the boat.

@SDS123 I've been following the trends of the voters all season. The ballots are made public every week. Here is a list of the media members with their affiliation. UCONN has 3 media members who cover the team and 1 former player who get to vote. The closest thing ND has is Kelly Gramlich of the ACC Network. I think she's fantastic, but even she was advocating for Toby Fournier as ACC Player of the Year over Hidalgo up until about the last game of the regular season. While I'm sure they claim to be "neutral", following the polls on a week-to-week basis it is clear to see members favoring particular conferences and teams. Hannah missed first-team by 5 points. The voting was 5 points for every first-team, 3 for a second-team, and 1 for a third-team vote. if my numbers are correct, Hannah received 15 first-team votes, 13 second-team votes, 2 third-team votes, and 1 member left her off the ballot entirely. That would give her 116 total. Those 3 media members who had her either third-team or not listed at all cost her. I think it's unjust that 3 voters with ballots that differ that widely from the consensus can affect the outcome. Hannah was 3rd in scoring, 1st in steals, 2nd in Win Shares, 1st in WAR, 3rd in BPM (box plus-minus), and 1st in total PRPG! (an all-inclusive metric from Bart Torvik, one of the guys whose rankings the NCAA uses for the men). All of this on top of the historic 25-5-5-5. To not have her as a top 15 player (meaning left off third team) when traditional stats, advanced stats, and impact all indicate she is at least a top-3 player is malfeasance.

To not have her on the first or second team suggests that the voters do not know anything about women's college basketball or have an ax to grind. I stopped trusting any kind of voting, whether it's a team in a poll or players on all-star teams, many years ago.

Add up the recruiting rankings of the teammates of those who made first team, and figure out why the teams were ranked where they were. It's a voting rationale for those who don't pay close attention to individual play.

I agree. Just hate it for Hannah. We see her every game, and then for some media member whose maybe watched her a handful of times to be able to deny her of something she deserves is just incredibly frustrating.

The AP voters change from year to year although many hang on. I don’t know how the local media voted but everything I’ve heard or read from them has been high praise for Hannah. There was one more first place vote for Hannah and only 5 points between her and Azzi. So I don’t see this as a conspiracy by UCONN and I think it is wrong to describe them as a mob trying to control WBB. Clearly they will vote for the player who they see all the time if the stats are close. I think that happens a lot regardless of sport. I’m sure you will feel much better when the coaches poll comes out. And by the way, I am also bummed that Hannah didn’t get First team.

I hope I didn't come across as harsh, did not mean to at all. I like your takes and am just frustrated with the whole process. Paul Finebaum of SECspn had the nerve to claim that ND football is only given opportunities because of higher-ups that work in media. I think we know after this year that's just not true. But UCONN and women's basketball? I think they have way too much influence over the sport. Even last year, Paige Bueckers received more votes for First-Team than Hannah did. This year they shoehorned two UCONN players into first-team (when they only should have 1), and received the #1 overall seed in the tournament despite having the #58 SOS (UCLA had the #1). They are great, but it feels to me like their players get more for doing less.
