Warde Manuel ...

I will go on record and say it's gone from "he's likely going to be elsewhere next year" to "his job is most likely safe" after events of the last several weeks. He has the full support of the interim president, Dominic Grasso, who called him the "best Athletic Director in the country" at the basketball celebration last week. Grasso will obviously be here longer now given Kent Syverud's brain cancer diagnosis. For those who missed it, Syverud will not be the next President. He is in our prayers — great guy, and would have been really good here. And some of those looking to make a change are no longer in position to do so. On a separate note, I rode the elevator with someone who appeared to be the interim President, some other people he was with on the way up to the press box Saturday. The young lady checking credentials told one of the men he needed a different pass — that he had to exchange his for another one, because that's what she was told and she had to do her job. He told her no, it was the right pass, "don't worry about it," and tried to blow her off. She insisted. He got more adamant. Eventually, he said, "I'm here with the President, I'll come back, don't worry about it." And she stuck to her guns before finally giving up. Everyone else just put their heads down and didn't say anything. The woman was worried she was going to get in trouble. I thanked her later on the way down for trying to do her job — she was pretty distraught. It reminded me of when a former Athletic Director pushed his way past somebody in the press box when she didn't recognize him and he didn't have a pass (he may have been A.D. at the time, even) and made it uncomfortable. That's poor leadership. He should have chuckled and commended her for doing her job. Regardless ... happy Monday.

People are generally the sum of who they hang around with or associate with. Unfortunately, it doesn't surprise me that Warde is off the hot seat. Winning should not be a replacement for ethical behavior

Warde has to have a mountain of dirt on all the regrets and people in the admin. Like go to jail dirt. He could have been fired like 10 times for all the bs that has happened under his watch

Grasso’s commentary at the ceremony definitely felt pretty clear about Warde’s status. Michigan can do better, but we’ll have to ride out the remaining years of Warde’s contract. Not sure if he’ll go beyond that at least.

This is a totally off topic question but do you know if Warde is healthy? He walked by us at the United Center and looked terrible...lost a noticeable amount of weight, struggling to walk, out of breath. That combined with the blazer over the hoodie look was tough to watch

I think he's healthy. Just lost a lot of weight quickly, as a lot of people do these days.

Got it. I guess for all the crap thrown at this guy, he did technically hire Dusty and now Whitt as well. We've won 2 national titles in the last 3 years in the two major sports and even hockey for those that care about that seem to be in a pretty good place. The guy seems like a total train wreck but I guess at the end of the day where we currently sit he has the only two sports I care about in a good place. Now it's about retaining a guy like Dusty which we've all seen is a disaster for him

Absolute crock of shite, but not a surprise from this University. Scandal after scandal after scandal but somehow the head of the department survives. As long as we win I guess.

Once the report kept getting pushed back and we kept winning in sports, I kind of figured Warde was going to end up being safe. Winning cures all
