2025 Uniformity – Week 14: Classic Sparky for the Territorial Cup Game
Week in Review
Another slow start struck the Sun Devils against a bad Colorado run defense. There were a few bright spots as they trailed 7-3 at the end of the first quarter. The Devils found a bit of footing in the second quarter, scoring their first touchdown of the game and kicking a field goal at the end of the half to take a slim 13-7 lead into halftime. The lethargy continued even into the third quarter as the Buffs took a 14-13 lead early in the second half, but that’s when the Sun Devils woke up. The next drive saw a 68-yard touchdown pass from Jeff Sims to Derek Eusebio as the former walk-on wide receiver continues to make big plays in big situations for the Sun Devils. Colorado closed the gap with a field goal, and the score was 21-17 at the end of the third quarter. After getting close to breaking a couple of runs earlier in the half, running back Raleek Brown finally found daylight that resulted in an 88-yard touchdown run. He ran all over the Buffs in the second half, recording the third-best single-game rushing total in ASU history with his 255 yards on the ground. Kanye Udoh and Jason Brown kept the rushing attack rolling as they notched two additional touchdowns while the Sun Devil defense shut down Colorado for the remainder of the game. The game was ugly for three quarters, but it ended with a beautiful final score of 42-17. Speaking of beautiful, let’s talk about those uniforms.
Sometimes, a helmet is worn, and there’s hype around it, but it ends up being worn during a loss, or a couple of losses, then you never see it again. Shout-out to the flame helmet circa 2013 and 2014, and the Desert Chrome helmet worn on the road against Oregon in 2016. The white Sparky helmet was set up for success as it was set to debut against a struggling Colorado team, but still, you’d hate to see this incredible fresh take on Sparky be worn in a loss to a bad team. Luckily, that didn’t happen. Not only did the Sun Devils win, but they scored 42 points, a significant number on campus; they blew out their opponents, and Raleek Brown had a historic night. There’s officially plenty of positivity surrounding the white Sparky helmet to have Sun Devil Nation be willing to invite a return for future games.
The uniform was incredible. That mix of traditional and modern hit just right. Seeing the white helmet, white jersey, and maroon pant combination has become a regular road game sight for the Sun Devils, but to see that single maroon center stripe with Sparky on either side brought it all home. It felt like a warm hug on a cold day in Boulder. Quintessentially ASU, even though it didn’t toe the straight and narrow of keeping Sparky on gold helmets. The combination, a dream uniform of mine, was perfect from head to toe. I wish we didn’t have to wait so long to finally see this uniform, but in a way, I’m glad it happened the way it did, in a uniform that has the team name on the front of the jersey, a feature that had been missing since 2018. UNISWAG named the uniform its 6th best of the week, while UniAuthority severely missed the mark by leaving it completely off the top 10. As far as I’m concerned, it’s the top candidate for ASU’s uniform of the year.

White Sparky Helmet/White/Maroon: A+
The Week to Come
Uniform The winning streak has grown to three as the Sun Devils enter their final game of the season, and it’s going to be a tough one as they look to defend the Territorial Cup. Both teams are coming into the game at 8-3 and ranked in the CFP top 25 poll. There is a very slim chance for a return trip to the Big 12 Championship game in Arlington on the line for the Sun Devils as long as they win this game as well. The slow starts won’t bode well in this game, so if the Sun Devils want to protect the Territorial Cup, they’ll need to be on their game from the opening kick. When the Sun Devils set out to keep the Cup, they’ll do so in the classic Gold Sparky helmet, maroon jersey, gold pant uniform combination.

The maroon jerseys feature gold “Arizona State” print in Sun Devil Bold font across the chest, gold player numbers outlined in white on both the front and back of the jersey, as well as the TV numbers on the sleeves. The sleeves also feature angular maroon fabric accents, symbolizing the rays on the Arizona state flag.
The nameplate on the back of the jersey utilizes the gold plain text font. On the front of the jersey, near the left shoulder, is a gold adidas logo. Near the right shoulder is a maroon and gold Big 12 logo. There is also a gold O2V printed on the inside of the collar, harkening to the final lyrics to the Arizona State fight song, “Onward to Victory.” Last, but not least, at the base of the collar is the black PT*42 shield in honor of ASU Football legend, Pat Tillman.

The gold pants have a maroon adidas logo on the left hip and a gold pitchfork with maroon trim on the right hip.

Helmet
The gold helmet features the classic Sparky decal on either side of the helmet and a maroon center stripe. The facemask is maroon, and the front bumper has a white base and maroon word mark that reads “Sun Devils,” which is outlined in gold. The maroon chinstrap features a maroon pitchfork with gold trim, while the actual maroon straps feature gold “Arizona State” print. There are also maroon Sparky decals for the visor attachments.
The decals on the back of the helmet include a transparent Big 12 logo with a maroon border, a maroon PT*42 shield honoring the legendary Sun Devil, Pat Tillman, a maroon Warning label which is in the shape of the state of Arizona, features maroon text, and has a small, gold pitchfork over Tempe, and an American flag. The decals on the back of the helmet are rounded by the maroon “Arizona State” text with gold outline on a white base rear bumper.

Cleats and Socks
Maroon and black cleats will be worn for the opening game. From left to right, there are three different types of cleats. The first two pairs are lighter cleats and are typically worn by speed position players (wide receivers and defensive backs), while the last pair is worn by heavier players (linemen).
From left to right, the pair furthest to the left is the adizero Electric. It features a maroon sole that reaches upward toward the heel of the shoe. They have a textured maroon base with three gold stripes and an adizero Electric wordmark on the outside of the shoe. The top portion of the cleat is a primeknit with a gold adizero wordmark on the tongue, and there is a maroon adidas logo with a gold outline on the instep. It has maroon laces speckled with gold and a maroon heel tab with a gold adizero Electric logo. The next pair is the adizero Impact. It features a gold sole, the maroon base has three gold stripes with mesh texture stylizations on the outside of the shoe, and there is an identical gold three stripe mark on the instep as well. The maroon laces are speckled with gold, there is a gold tongue loop with a maroon adizero wordmark on the tongue, and the cleat also has a gold finger loop on the heel.
The final pair is the adizero Chaos, made for more ankle support for heavier linemen. It has a black sole and base with white mesh stylized three stripes on the outside of the foot, and black laces.

Maroon socks will be worn to match the cleats as well.

Gloves
The Sun Devils will wear white gloves, and as with the cleats, there are different gloves for different positions. The gloves on the top are adizeros, which are typically worn by speed position players like wide receivers and defensive backs. The white adizeros feature a maroon pitchfork with gold trim on the palm of each glove. They also have three maroon stripes logo on the back of the hand, a maroon adidas logo on the corner of the wrist strap, and a white, tonal adizero word mark on the pointer finger. The gloves in the middle are adidas Freaks, worn by larger skill position players such as linebackers and tight ends. The white adidas Freak gloves feature the same maroon pitchfork palm design as the adizero, three maroon stripes on the back of the hand, and differ by having a maroon adizero wordmark on the white wristband. Finally, for linemen, the gloves on the bottom are adidas Freak-Max, which boast extra padding on the heel of the palm meant to withstand all of the contact that linemen endure throughout the course of a game. They are plain white with black padding on the palm, and along with a maroon adidas logo on the back of the hand, they also have maroon accents on the knuckles and the black wrist-wrap.

Reaction
As the regular season comes to a close, we now have a full scope of what the Sparky usage looks like for the complete 2025 season. Sparky has been used five times, four of which were the traditional full body Sparky, the other being the Sparky face decal. This weekend will be the first usage at home, which is an interesting fact, but he has looked good on the road this season. If there is only going to be one usage of Sparky at home, then the traditional gold, maroon, gold combination is the way to go, particularly in the rivalry game. The maroon facemask still reigns supreme, so it’s good to see that being worn for this matchup. What more can be said that hasn’t already been said about the Sparky uniform by old heads, traditionalists, new school fans, and college football fans from across the nation? They all know that Sparky is a top tier uniform in college football. This uniform is elite and the Devils will look incredible. Let’s hope they play as incredible as they look and retain the Territorial Cup so that it remains where it belongs in Tempe.
What Color ASU Fans Should Wear: Gold
Honorary #Faniform
Arizona State Athletic Director Graham Rossini continues to join in the fun of submitting a #faniform each week. While it is still a #faniform, anything submitted from Rossini will never be eligible for the #faniforms presented by Cactus Sports contest. However, we still love to highlight his participation and just how well-dressed he is. Last game, Rossini wore a maroon beanie that had a gold pitchfork with maroon trim and a maroon adidas logo on a gold patch. He wore a maroon baseball coach’s dugout jacket that had a gold interlocking AS with a white border, and gold and white striped sleeve cuffs, collar, and waistband. He also wore a maroon hoodie that has a small maroon pitchfork with gold trim. Under that was a white ASU Homecoming Sparky shirt. He also wore maroon and gold adidas Gazelle shoes.
