Georgia is down a commit in the Class of 2024, as four-star safety Jaylen Heyward has reopened his process.

A product of Rockledge, Florida’s Rockledge High, Heyward ranks as the nation’s No. 96 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking.

Heyward committed to the Bulldogs in January, during a stop for the National Championship parade.

At that time, he was clear that the Bulldogs were the right fit.

“The relationship with Coach Fran [Brown] and Coach [Will] Muschamp has been amazing. I’m closer with Coach Muschamp, and that relationship has been great. We text every day. He’s always sending me graphics, and we always ask about each other’s families. We talk about how our days have been going, and he’s always telling me how a day at Georgia goes,” Heyward told DawgsHQ. “He gives me a coach’s point of view, but he gives me a bit of the player’s point of view, too. That’s good to know as a player in this recruitment process. You want to know what players are doing at that school and how they’re getting coached on an everyday basis. He’s shown me he’s an amazing coach. He’s really smart in everything he does. He’s one of the best defensive coordinators in college football.”

Since that time, however, Heyward has been entertaining other options, taking official visits to UCF and Miami.

Auburn has also played host, as has Florida, among others.

Currently, the Bulldogs have 25 commits for the class of 2024, including three defensive backs.

Scouting Report on Jaylen Heyward

“Athletic defensive back with the skills to line up at multiple spots in the secondary. Measured at around 5-foot-10.5, 180 pounds prior to his junior season. A strong athlete who also excels as a sprinter in track and field. Was a state finalist in the 100 meters as a junior with a 10.79 second mark. Primarily lined up as a cornerback as a junior, despite being considered as a safety prospect. Could feasibly play multiple spots in the secondary at the college level. Has the speed to run with receivers on vertical routes. Carries wideouts down the field and stays in phase. His man cover skills stack up on the higher end among 2024 safety prospects. Had solid ball production as a junior with 8 pass breakups and 2 interceptions. A physical and willing tackler. Not shy in lowering his shoulder. Also plays on offense, showing his burst as a running back. Pulls away from defenses once he’s at the second level. Does not have a big frame. Looks to be more of a straight line athlete at this time and can continue improving his fluidity and change of direction.” – Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings on Jaylen Heyward
