Georgia running back Daijun Edwards is ready for the next phase of his football career. After posting his most productive season as a Bulldog in 2023, the Colquitt County High School product is moving on to the NFL, forgoing one final season of eligibility.

“It has been a blessing to represent Georgia Football these past 4 years,” Edwards wrote in a message on social media. “I will cherish every memory made with my brothers in red & black between the hedges. I want to thank God, my family, teammates and all our fans for their endless support. I’m forever thankful to my coaching staff for their leadership, guidance and the opportunity to show my talents on the field. With that being said, I am grateful to announce that I will officially be declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft! Dawg For Life. 30 Out.”

Edwards is a senior but he could have returned in 2024 due to the NCAA’s decision to not count the 2020 season against the eligibility in either sport. The writing, however, appeared to be on the wall back in November when the 5-foot-10 201-pound tailback was honored at UGA’s Senior Day Ceremony.

Each of the past two seasons have seen Edwards increase his production. He has at least 200 yards rushing every year that he has been at Georgia. He piled up 218 yards and a touchdown as a freshman in 2020 and ran for 215 yards and three scores in 2021.

A bigger role was in store for him in 2022 as he saw 140 carries for 769 yards and seven scores. The 2024 season was, by far, his most productive. Despite not playing in the first two games of the season because of a sprained MCL, Edwards racked up over 1,000 yards from scrimmage. He carried it 165 times for 880 yards and 13 touchdowns while catching 20 passes for 197 yards.

He was at his best against Florida the past two seasons, averaging over 100 yards per game in The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party and rushing for four touchdowns. He tallied four 100-yard games in his Bulldog career.

Edwards was a late addition for Georgia in the 2020 class. He held out to sign after the Early Signing Period that year and committed to the Bulldogs on January 30, 2020. He was ranked as the nation’s No. 299 overall prospect and No. 31 running back according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that includes all four websites that rate and rank prospects. He was the No. 30 player in Georgia.
