Georgia football injury report: Kirby Smart offers update on trio of starters

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia lost a pair of starting offensive linemen, Juan Gaston and Earnest Greene, in the first quarter of Saturday’s 45-7 win over Marshall. The Bulldogs also went the whole way without its most experienced player coming into the season, Daylen Everette.
Once the dust settled on the Bulldogs first victory of the 2025 season, Kirby Smart was able to offer an update on the trio.
The Georgia head coach says that Juan Gaston will undergo an MRI to determine whether or not he has a high-ankle sprain. He didn’t offer much detail on Everette, simply saying “he’s injured.” Concerning Greene, Smart says that he battled some “lower-body stiffness” and was unable to go back in the game.
Gaston, who became the first true freshman offensive lineman to start for Georgia in a season opener since 2017, exited the game after the Bulldogs second touchdown of the day. The starting right guard was rolled up on as Gunner Stockton kept a zone read and ran it 13 yards for a touchdown. Gaston walked off the field under his own power but never reentered the game.

Greene’s injury was less obvious but he, too, didn’t see action after the second series. He was replaced by Bo Hughley, who played the rest of the first-team snaps at right tackle. It wasn’t until later in the game that Georgia Bulldog Radio Network sideline reporter DJ Shockley revealed that he was out with a leg injury.

The California native made his first start at right tackle on Saturday. He had previously started 23 games at left tackle with 14 of those taking place in 2023 and nine more to start the 2024 season. A left shoulder injury sidelined him for three games to end the 2024 regular season.
Despite going through pregame warmup, Everette didn’t play at all in the season opener. It broke a string of 28 straight starts for the senior cornerback. Georgia turned to redshirt freshman Ellis Robinson and junior Daniel Harris to start against the Thundering Herd.
Georgia will be back at home next Saturday to take on Austin Peay. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+ and SECNetwork+.
