Tuesday morning started off right for the Georgia Bulldogs, as the Dawgs landed the commitment of four-star defensive lineman Justin Greene.

We broke it all down on the On3 Roundtable.

I shared my thoughts with Wes Blankenship on what Greene brings to the fold for the Bulldogs, and the consensus was clear — it’s a lot.

“Georgia picks up one of their biggest targets in this class. What’s so important about Justin Greene is the position he plays. He’s a guy who is built perfectly for the five-technique at Georgia, and they didn’t really have a couple of clear guys there last year,” I said to Blankenship during the spot.

And count me as a believer in where this guy is headed ultimately, as Greene feels like he’s just getting started into what he can become over the longterm.

“He’s long, and he looks like he can carry another 15 or 20 pounds and that won’t be a problem for him. That’s what stands out when I think of Justin Greene. He’s also steadily improved over the course of the last couple of years, and last year, he took a huge leap forward.”

That’s huge for his prospects moving forward, even into this year.

“The expectations are even bigger for him going into this senior year. I think Georgia got a guy here that is just scratching the surface of his potential. I think he continues to climb. He’s got the buildable frame. He’s got a good tool box of pass rush moves. It’s really all the things you look for. Is he the most polished guy? Probably not yet, but he’s playing against some tremendous competition there in Gwinnett County. I think Georgia will have a chance to grow this guy and grow his game. He can flourish into a really talented player, not that he’s not already, but I think he can push this thing even further.”

Justin Greene not just big for the class but good for the keep away

It wasn’t just what he brings to the field that matters either.

The Dawgs were able to reel him away from some of their hated rivals in the SEC, so count that as a double win.

“It was a major, major need for them this cycle, and Justin Greene is one of the best in the nation and just happens to be down the road, as well. That’s advantageous for them. In my mind, he was a must get guy, and you kept him from the likes of South Carolina and Auburn in getting him, as well. It’s all the bigger.”
