Throw another log on the fire for Georgia’s 2023 class, as Carver (Columbus, Ga.) offensive lineman Kelton Smith has announced his commitment to the Bulldogs on Friday.

Ranked as the nation’s No. 189 overall prospect in the rising senior class, Smith becomes the sixteenth commitment for Georgia in 2023.

Smith is considered a four-star prospect in the 2023 On3 Consensus, as well as the nation’s No. 12 interior offensive lineman and the No. 17 overall player in the Peach State for 2023.

He joins Langston Hughes tackle Bo Hughley and Life Christian (VA) offensive lineman Joshua Miller in the class.

Smith currently plays at Columbus’ Georgia Washington Carver High, the home of former Bulldogs Isaiah Crowell, Quantavious ‘Cootie’ Harrow, and standout pass rusher Jarvis Jones.

Georgia running backs coach Dell McGee was the former coach of Carver-Columbus and is a native of Columbus, Georgia.

A 6-foot-5, 310-pound lineman, Smith is capable of filling any spot on Georgia’s offensive front, though currently he’s projected to the tackle spot.

Charles Power, On3 director of scouting and rankings, offered up the following scouting report on Smith:

“Big-bodied offensive lineman with an outstanding combination of length and functional strength. Plays with the power of an interior offensive lineman with the plus length (arms over 35 inches) of a top offensive tackle. Measured at around 6-foot-4, 220 pounds prior to his senior season. Has primarily worked at right tackle for a top talent-producing high school program in west Georgia. Shows some dominant tendencies as a drive blocker, moving defenders 10 to 15 yards downfield at times. Functional strength is also validated with some strong results in the shot put, including a 53-8 foot toss as a sophomore. Still has room to refine his technique and pass set. Can also tend to bend at the waist at times. Unique combination of play strength and length makes him one of the higher upside offensive linemen in the 2023 cycle.”

Georgia commitment Joshua Miller on what makes offensive line coach Stacy Searels an effective recruiter

Smith is Georgia’s third offensive line commitment of the cycle.

Current Georgia commit and one-time Penn State pledge Joshua Miller explained what it is about the Bulldogs that drew him into the fold and much of that had to do with Stacy Searels.

“Me and Searels had a tight relationship from the jump. I don’t know what it was, but we connected easily. Then, after talking for awhile, I found out both of us lost our fathers to pancreatic cancer and that kinda made our bond tighter,” Miller said.
