Special teams is a third of the game of football, and in the Class of 2024, the Georgia Bulldogs now have one of the nation’s best specialists in the fold, with the team formally announcing the signing of Drew Miller on Wednesday.

A three-star prospect in the Class of 2024, Miller is the number one rated punter by On3, 247, and Kohl’s Professional Kicking Camps, which is often considered the authority on high school specialists.

The 6-foot-2, 200 pound Miller hails from Mediapolis, Iowa’s Mediapolis High School. In addition to his roles as punter, Miller played quarterback for Mediapolis in his senior season.

Miller committed to the Bulldogs in May of 2023 and never wavered on the pledge.

“I really like how the specialists are treated as football players and athletes and not just seen as someone who kicks the ball,” Miller said. “They do the same workouts as everyone else and they are close with the rest of the team…It is a great program. I have built some really good relationships with some guys there like Peyton Woodring and Will Snellings and the coaches.”

That closeness spread well beyond just the players, however.

“I’ve learned how much they care about you off the field as much as on the field. It feels like a great family atmosphere,” he said. “I asked about churches and they contacted someone right away where they thought I could fit in based on my beliefs.”

Miller will now compete with established Georgia punter Brett Thorson for duties in his freshman season, though he may be able to find opportunity within the kickoff duties, as well. That’s due to the departure of kicker Jared Zirkel, who largely handled that role, for the transfer portal.

Scouting Report on Drew Miller

“Miller most recently competed at the 2022 National Invitational Scholarship Camp in July of 2022. Miller again proved to be one of the top kicker/punter combos in the 2024 class. Miller’s punt score of 111.95 was outstanding. At the 2021 Kohl’s National Scholarship Camp, he scored 25 points on field goal charts and even won the field goal competition held at the end of camp. He also charted extremely well in punting, averaging 113.4 points in charting with multiple punts over 4.7 seconds of hang-time. Miller shows tremendous leg speed and power in both kicking and punting, making him one of the most exciting prospects in his class!” — Kohl’s Professional Kicking Camps bio on Drew Miller
